• German: word for "subject" with regards to art?

I cannot figure out the analogue in German to our English word "subject" with regards to art. For example, the subject of the Mona Lisa is a young woman, the subject of a still life is a wine bottle and some peaches, the subject of Hokusai's The Great Wave is a wave... None of the dictionaries I use has a sub-entry for art under subject. Any ideas? show more

  • Ogilvie Straightener— does anyone have the directions?

So upon arrival, I find that while she -does- have the kit, she lost the directions. I can't find them anywhere online. I've used it before, so I know the basic gist... Comb step one in, rinse, comb step two in, rinse, then use the leave-in conditioner. But I can't remember how -long- each step gets left in. Also, one is supposed to wash one's hair before beginning, right? So if anyone has the directions and can post them here, yeah, that would be really amazing.

  • Christians: What do you get out of your religion?

I am merely wondering why it is that you like being Christian. Is it merely knowing that you'll never go to hell? Is it because you want to make the world a better place? Is it because you like knowing that you'll always have a friend to talk to? I'm sure there are other things. Tell me!
