• How many people here are enjoying life without organized religion?

Since I've decided to abandon organized religion, I've been much happier. This was a personal decision and is in no way intended as a commentary on anyone else's decision to participate in organized religion. I was just wondering if anyone else feels the same.

Any ideas on how to block this negative energy? It's mainly coming from co-workers and family members so these are people I really can't completely ignore. Thank you for your thoughtful answers.

I am going to visit a friend and her husband for five days, and I would like to take them a nice host and hostess gift. Does anyone have any good ideas? Neither of them drink so a bottle of wine or something similar would not be a good choice for them.

The reason I ask is that I have belonged to a couple of on-line services (eHarmony.com and Match.com) and it seems like the only people who've contacted me are guys who want me to give them money or guys who just want a physical relationship. My profiles have been very straightforward about what I'm looking for in a man (someone who is honest, doesn't use bad pick-up lines, etc), but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I would appreciate any feedback.

  • What is the kindest way to break up with someone?

I've been out with this guy three times, and I just don't want to go out with him anymore. He seems to really like me, but there is just no spark there for me. I think it's better to end it now, but I've never been the one to end a relationship and I'm not sure how to go about it in a kind way.

Lately, I've been seriously questioning my religion and have decided once and for all that I either need to be serious about Mormonism and practice it or get out. It's almost impossible to dig through all of the info on the internet, but I have read some rather disturbing things about Joseph Smith and the founding of the Mormon church. Anyone can put anything they want on the internet, but I would like to read actual peer-reviewed scholarly articles about Joseph Smith. I would prefer that the writers of these articles not be Mormon because I believe Mormon authors won't present an unbiased view. I hope to get some serious answers and not just someone's crazy ravings. Crazy ravings are fine but they won't help me much in this case.

I took a university course a few years ago on Classical Mythology, and I became completely fascinated with the civilizations of Greece and Rome. If I wouldn't have been so close to finishing my Anthropology degree, I would have changed my major to Classical Studies. Ever since that time, I have wanted to study more about Greek and Roman civilizations, but the amount of available information is overwhelming and I don't know where to start. I am not really in a position at this point to return to school so I would like to do a self-study of Greek and Roman civilizations. Are there any Classics professors or classicists out there who can offer me some guidance. Also, I would like to teach myself to read Latin and Classic Greek. How difficult will this be and what are the best textbooks to use?
