Please tell me that most of you keep your beloved weapons under lock and key, and not fully-loaded around the house so curious children can....you know....accidentally kill each other.
It seems like every other day I read in the paper about some kid accidentally shooting their little sister, or a young friend who was just visiting for a 'play date'. Please tell me that only a very tiny percentage of the population is stupid enough to leave loaded weapons within reach of their children in the name of "protecting" their family.
PLEASE tell me that (and I can only hope).....005 % of the population is that stupid. I haven't yet googled the actual statistics....and am a little afraid to.
I am a Vietnam combat veteran, and somehow have miraculously survived all of these years living in these wonderful United States (including New York) without even THINKING of keeping any kind of weapon in the house. My kids grew up safe and fine....nobody ever came CLOSE to climbing through the window....
Alright, go ahead and say it: "Times have changed." Well, maybe a little. But not so much that we suddenly must have guns everywhere, like peanuts at a cocktail party. You cannot deny the statistics. Good people are shooting other good people at an alarming rate, only because guns are so handy and seem to many, in the heat of the moment, like the perfect way to "straighten this guy out...."
