I'm a student of American Sign language. I am also the proud mommy of two beautiful children. Besides my children, my other loves are art, music and learning.

  • Deaf people only please! Thank you!?

I am an asl student and I will be teaching a group of third graders about American Sign Language and Deaf culture. I want to know what do YOU think is the MOST important thing for me to teach to these children? I want to make sure I do the Deaf community proud and teach what THEY view as the most important things. Thanks for your answers in advance.

  • If a man and a woman are legally married can the woman keep the children from seeing her spouse?

A man is legally still married to his wife, but they are living separately. No custody has been established. Is it legal in Ohio for the woman to keep the children from the father as collateral? (ie: you can't see our kids until you give me the television!?)

  • My son's behavior is unacceptable at school.?

This whole situation is incredibly confusing for me. He has no behavior problems at home. He is a very loving and well behaved child. He plays in his room without disturbing anyone else, he gets along with his siblings and aside from telling on the other kids occasionally, he doesn't do anything wrong, really. But when he is at school, he punches other kids, screams at people, talks back to the teacher and generally doesn't follow rules. I know there is a child in his class who has severe behavior issues and I'm wondering if this kid is rubbing off on mine. My son is 6 years old and in Kindergarten, he was in preschool for two years with no behavior issues, so any ideas on how to curb this behavior? He's missed recess at school and been grounded from video games, tv and extra activities at home for up to a week because of his behavior at school, and it still continues. What can I do? Any ideas or suggestions?

  • People with one leg...?

I'm curious, people who have one leg and do not wear a prosthetic, what do they do with the other shoe when they buy a pair? Is there some kind of network for people to trade their other shoes or something? Just wondering.

  • Motorcycle Gang Information.?

I am curious about motorcycle gangs. A girl in my Effective Speaking Class gave a presentation about them and I've been curious ever since. I dated a guy a few years back who claimed to be a part of a motorcycle gang, and he said the necklace he wore was part of his membership or something. It's been a while ago so my memory of why he said he got the necklace is lost in the wrinkles of my brain somewhere, but I know what it looked like. It was a black cross on a black leather cord. I'm wondering if anyone knows what motorcycle gang has that, if any. Just curious...thanks for ya help.

  • Issues with my 7 year old daughter?

I've got two children, ages 5 and 7. This past may, my mother won temporary custody of my children by default. She had them until Oct. when the court finally scheduled our mediation. Now that they are back home, any time I try to discipline them in any way (time outs, taking away privileges) for behavior that I don't allow, such as talking back or violent behavior, my daughter tells me that she's going to either "tell grandma" or she's going to run away. She also informed me this morning that I don't even have custody of them! I'm not sure where she's getting this information, but it is very hurtful, considering that they were not with me for quite some time. I know that for the most part, it's a rebellion to my discipline, but I don't know how to handle this. Do I increase the discipline when she tells me this? (ex. instead of loosing her tv for a day, make it two days?) or do I just let it slide and act like it doesn't bother me? What is the right way to react?HELP !!! I don't want her to think that I'm a push over, or that her grandma is in control here. I'm the parent, and I am the one responsible for her behavior.

  • Divorce Law In Ohio...?

I have been living apart from my current husband for two years. After he and I separated, he began to break the law and use drugs. Arrest warrants were put out for him, but they were not able to locate him. I have moved on with my life and I would like to get divorced from him, once and for all. BUT, Ohio law states that both parties need to sign the paperwork and be present at the trial. I've also heard that there is a process where you can put some sort of ad in a newspaper and after a period of time, they will grant the divorce if they haven't heard from the party. Is anyone privy to this information? I'd like to know how to go about getting this type of divorce, so i can finally be rid of his name. Please give me any information you have and any links that may be of help. Thank you!

  • whats the strangest baby name?

People are looking for more and more unique names for their children these days. Aside from celebrity names, what are the strangest names you've heard of? I'd like the answers to be personal, not something you read of a website. For example, My Aunt's name was Ida Warnick, not too strange, but her maden name was Ida Beaver. I also had an uncle named Harley LeStrange Warnick. Pretty unique and funny names...So, tell me your strange names =D

  • My sons name: Meaning please help?

In the year 2000, I was looking for a name for my cat online. I came across a website that had a really cool name for a boy. The listing was "Zarean" and the site had it listed as a Russian name, meaning Dawn. This is what I ended up naming my son, but I've yet to find the name a second time online to varify what I had learned. I love his name, but I am curious about the actual pronunciation of the name. I pronounce it Zar(like far with a z) ean (like seeing with out the s and the g) hope that makes sense =) Can anyone help me with a website link or actual knowledge about Russian language or another language where that name is prevalent? Thanks.

  • 5 Year old boy curious...Help!!?

My son is five years old. I'm a single mother and their father lives 7 hours away, in another state. Recently, my son and I were playing cars in the living room. I asked him to get up and go get dressed for the day. He stood there for a second and then asked, "Mommy, when I push on my penis, it gets bigger. Why does it do that?" I just repeated my request for him to get dressed. I really didn't have a clue how to address his question, but I didn't want to give him an answer that was not appropriate for his age. What should I have said to him? What did you do in this situation, if it's ever been asked of you? Help, I'm not a man, I don't know how to answer this question!

  • At what age do you think children are able to make well informed decisions about what they eat?

My children have been raised vegetarian since they were in-utero. Their father and I decided that vegetarianism was the healthiest path for them and ourselves. He and I have since separated and the children are now aged 5 and 7. The majority of the people around my children are not vegetarian, and until recently, this has not bothered them. They are and always have been very healthy and eat vegetables that most children turn their noses up at. On Thanksgiving, they were at their father's house for visitation. He promised to buy them a tofurkey (our version of a turkey) and special vegetarian food for them. He backed out on this promise and when the potatoes were not enough to fill the children, he gave them turkey. He also fed them ham sandwiches and God only knows what else while they were there. He told them that it was their secret and they weren't to tell me they ate meat. Eventually the truth came out and I'm furious! He thinks that the children are old enough to choose for themselves, what kind of food they want to eat. I, on the other hand, don't think that they are old enough. They don't understand the ethics and health benefits of a vegetarian diet, and I don't think they will until they are much older. In addition, they never ask to eat meat when other people offer it to them, including our babysitter, who prepares meat for the other children in her care. I guess the question is, what age do you think children are capable of making this decision on their own, and do you think I'm wrong for being upset with their father, when there are also religious reasons behind my vegetarianism? (though he doesn't follow the same religion as I do, now that he lives with his parents who are Catholic, carnivores)

I have a 1995 Geo Prizm. It is a four door vehicle. Both driver's side doors are stuck shut. The handle, interior and exterior are broken. I need to replace the outer handle and apparently a mechanism on the inside of the door. How can I fix this? Will I be able to get the door panels off if i can't open the doors? How? Is there anywhere that has a diagram of the operating system of the door?

  • Lawyers please help me!!!?

I'm in a lesbian relationship and I have two small children. I live in government housing, and my girlfriend doesn't live with me. She visits about once a week. Today, my kids dad and his parents came to visit. As they were approaching my apt building, the landlord came up to them and said "I've seen Dawn and her lover kissing in the parking lot and I just wanted to let you know that there isn't anything I can do about it." It sounds to me as if she's trying to cause problems for me. But the thing is they already know about my girlfriend and are ok with it. Did she break any laws? Isn't this discrimination? i'm sure if i had a boyfriend she wouldn't have said anything to them. She's also given me some lame lease violations...I have a feeling she's trying to evict me. What can I do? What should I do?
