(oh the drama of being 13.) So the problem in detail is: My best guy friend, emailed me yesterday saying he likes me. The problem is I like someone else--who happens to be his former best friend(and my other best guy friend). Since the last day of school was yesterday I can't tell him in person. We're going to different schools and the only chance I have of seeing him is at my birthday party two weeks from now. I don't really want to reject him at my birthday party, because: 1) if someone did that to me it would absolutely kill me 2)the guy I like will be there and since they're kind of mad at each other(for different reasons) 3)my friends will bother both of us if I talk to him alone--we'll be at a restaurant AND they always tease us about being together even though we're not. My friends aren't really helping, two say "give him a chance," but I don't want to lie to him or feign interest. Another one says "tell him the truth" but the problem is that I don't know how to go about that. And nobody else is really helping. So the question is, how do I go about responding to his email? Thanks in advance.

I was listening to a radio commercial today for Sirius Satellite Radio. Since my birthday's in a month I'm running through a list of options to ask my parents, but for one thing I barely know what Satellite Radio is. So your job: Convince me to ask for it. Or not to. Pick a side, any side.

Yesterday I was playing with my sister's magnets, and when they repelled each other I started feeling sick. So what's up with that? Is there a logical explanation? (until I find one I'm calling it my sixth sense :P)

It's Hi(like high), right? Because in LA our teacher said it was "hay-ku" because when "two vowels go walking the first one does the talking." But haiku is a Japanese word, and besides, there's an exception to every rule, correct?

I'm in grade 8, just so you know. I already have a couple of topics I want to talk about: -Once, in the Spelling Bee Of Canada, there was a kid who learned how to spell all the words by making recordings of them and putting them in his iPod -The Internet, when used correctly, is a good place to learn (as well as encyclopedias etc. on CDs) -The Discovery Channel and The History Channel are good places to learn -Teachers in our school use Powerpoints, videos, etc. to teach us all the time(in fact, this particular teacher depends on technology quite a bit in order to teach us) So is there anything else I should talk about that you can think of? I know it's a silly old fairy tale, but I'd like someone to explain to me the answer to the original question(why is the father's porridge hot, the mother's cold, and the baby's average?). Crazy question, I know.

I forget who it's by, and the back cover wasn't very descriptive so it didn't stick in my brain. Could anyone possibly know what book it is?(doubt it..)

First may I say that I am a grade 8 student. Today, during language class, I noticed in the exercise we were given that "ongoing" was spelt as "on going," which appeared slightly odd, seeing as in most novels I read, it's one word. To clarify that I was, in fact, NOT losing my mind, I asked my friend. She agreed. Puzzled and curious(OK, I wanted to prove the teacher wrong, but I /was/ curious!), I raised my hand and asked "Isn't on going one word?" but my answer was met with silence. During the next English block we had, a student and the same teacher were in a debate over whether we should say "media is" or "media are." The teacher told the student to get a dictionary from the shelf. Seeing my chance, I got one too. I looked up "ongoing"(which was under "on"), and it was one word. I raised my hand and said. "You never answered my question from earlier. Isn't ongoing one word?" The teacher said that it was 2 words, and I said, "But I just looked it up and it's one word." I tried to show him the page, but he didn't bother looking(he's very single minded, may I add). One person claimed that the dictionary could be wrong, but this was mostly met with skepticism(of course, I could just look it up in multiple dictionaries, but our school uses only one kind). Then I remembered that it was a compound word, and I said that the word was under "on." He asked why, and I said that "on" was a sort of prefix(which I know is wrong, I have problems with words sometimes). Anyways, he went into a lecture on American spelling vs. British spelling, and said that in British spelling, there is a hyphen between "on" and "going", and therefore I was wrong. However, this same teacher has gone on to say that British and American spellings will be accepted, as long as it remains constant throughout whatever assignment was given. I pointed out that we were both wrong then, and so was the dictionary, and then the discussion ended. Since I don't want to waste 5 points, I'll ask all my L.A related questions here: -is is "ongoing", "on going", or "on-going?" -please correct the grammar in my question, I like English and I want to learn something =) -Is there a comma after "at last" in this sentence "At last(,) he gave up and walked away." seeing as it is a transition verb? -Is it within our teacher's right to take marks off based on the tiniest mistakes in letter formation(may I add he's also taken marks off my friend for not putting a line through her "f," when it was even visible under his pen)? Keep all answers within the rules accepted in Canada, because I'm in Canada =) Forgive the excessive use of smilies. If I have more questions(or if you have questions for me), I'll add them. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and have a good day.

I mean, you get 10 points from every best answer, so why use it to make your question more special? Yeah...sorry if that doesnt make sense, I'm hungry, tired, and bored =(

Most of it deals with how she doesn't fit in and she thinks that me and our other friends must be wondering what we did to deserve a friend like her. And how she misses that cousin I told you about.
