The Virginia Cavaliers men's basketball team dominated the ACC and many fans thought for sure they would go all the way to the Final Four and finally win it all, but in the first round of the NCAA tournament, they played the kind of fundamentally dumb basketball that has doomed so many promising teams in the past against UMBC last night. in which they constantly failed to execute on offense or defense in critical situations.
The players, the coaches, the athletic director, the school president and the fans deserve a great deal of the blame for their poor performance against UMBC last night in the NCAA tournament, but what really hurt Virginia's chances was DeAndre Hunter's injury.
If there's one lesson to be learned in the NCAA tournament, it's that if you play fundamentally dumb basketball at any point in the tournament, your team is DOOMED and they will drown in a bloody, bloody red sea of "What ifs?"
Do you think the Virginia Cavaliers are guilty of playing fundamentally dumb basketball in the first round of the NCAA Tournament vs. UMBC? And, should they return to the NCAA tournament next season, can they atone for their first round upset against UMBC and make a bid for their first trip to their Final Four since 1984?
