  • Help me loose weight?

    I am 29/M/Asian/200/5'7".

I used to weigh about the same 4 years ago. From Dec'04, I exercised a lot, did lots of cardio and was down to 182 by 02/06. I got married (02/06) after which my time at GYM slowly reduced and I started to enjoy home cooked meals (Compliments of my wife) and slowly weight increased. After 5-6 months, I started exercising but the more I exercised the more I gained weight!! This happened for 3-4 months. I slowly reduced exercising and started playing (racquetball) and weight sort of stabilized but by then I was at 220. It's been 3 months now that I am back to exercise but the weight does not fall off. I work out atleast 3 times a week. Used to do high intensity (heart rate crossed 180) but I changed to medium intensity. Burn about 800 calories in 60 minutes. None of this is helping me reduce the weight. I eat healthy food. Mainly vegetables. Eat meat (only chicken/turkey) once or twice a week.Being from India,my main staple is Rice and Roti. What's wrong?

  • Cache directive - Servlet Specification?

    Hello All,

I want to instruct the webserver (weblogic in my case) to cache images/JavaScript/CSS.

The cache-control directives that you can specify in the response will only make the cache available in the client and not in the server. What I want is the opposite.

Mine is a Java web application and my web.xml follows Servlet 2.3 specification. I looked through the specification but could not find any cache directive.

How to set up a simple rule to store the above in the server side?

    TIA

  • Jobs - Structural Engineer?

My wife recently got her employment authorization and is looking for a job. She has a masters in Structural engineering and has 2+ years of experience in STAAD, AutoCAD and finite element analysis in the design and construction of ASH/SILO systems used in Thermal Power plants.

We looked for jobs in various job sites such as monster, yahoo, indeed etc. There are very few openings. I know that knowledge of STAAD combined with AutoCAD is a very good asset for a structural engineer. I just think that we are looking at wrong place. Since she is new to the country she does not know where stuructural engineering oppurtunities are posted.

We currently live in Atlanta, GA but are willing to relocate. If any of you know opportunities or atleast places where they are posted, please share.

    TIA

  • Need suggestions - Second year Anniversary?

We have our second anniversary coming up in february 3rd week. My first anniversary was a disaster and we never had our honeymoon. So I really have to make it up this time. We are confined in many ways. I am in Atlanta, GA.

    1) Want to keep it around $1k - 1.5K

    2) Dont want to travel overseas which require VISA

    3) Not looking for outdoor food as she is vegetarian and does not have any choices in menu these days.

    4) She has severe migraine and excessive outdoor activity / exposure to sunlight could trigger it.

    5) Taking 4 days off (Friday to monday)

Keepin above in mind, I thought of Las Vegas and/or Grand Canyon as a good choice. Las Vegas because most of the time spent will be at night. I dont know what kind of activities are possible at Grand Canyon during that time of the year?

We have been to a couple of beaches in SE georgia and really find them very relaxing.

Lookin for romantic places filled with sight seeing and few outdoor activities that would fill up a 4 day trip - TIA

  • JavaScript Single Select Question?

    All,

In my HTML I have a single select box that has a viewport of 10 elements. I have a input box underneath it where in they can type a string which would be looked up in the options of the select control. The requirement is that the matching option should be in the viewport. I achieved this by selecting the option matching the text which makes the scroll bar scroll to that option.

Another requirement is that when the user selects a option from this single select list, I have to go and fetch some data from server (ajax) and present in a second combo box. I had no problem in doing that when the user clicks on the option but if the user types in a string in the input box the selection ogic described above selects an option but the second combox box is empty.

My question is how to scroll to programtically scroll to a particular element with out selecting the element in a single select list?

    TIA

  • Jacksonville, FL - SEnior citizen perspective?

I want to consider travelling to Jacksonville. My parents will accompany me and I want to know things that they can do there. My parents are not too fond of rides / water sports. Since they have lived all their life in a different country they do not adjust very well with food here ...so restaurant visiting is not gonna roll with them.

They do like scenic views, water falls etc. So please suggest things to do for senior citizens there.

    Thanks in Advance

  • Florida Vacation spots : Senior citizen perspective?

    Hello All,

I desperately need your help in coming up with vacations spots in Florida. You see I will be travelling with my parents and my wife for the first time to florida. I do not have any clue about the parks / tourist spots there. More over my parents are not really interested in rides and water sports. So I guess Universal's Island Of Adventures wont be a great hit. I am not sure if the rides in Disney world are very scary that they cannot be sustained by old age people. What about Busch garderns? Is it really worth seeing? I am coming from Atlanta and they have already seen aquarium here and in Tennesse so I dont know if Water world would provide them something very different. I was even thinking of driving along the Key west. What can we do in Keys? Are there some sight seeing places there?

Any thoughts/ suggestions would really help.

  • Unredeemed Claim?

I had minor dents to my car when my apartment gates malfunctioned and hit the bumper and the side fender.I was thinking of selling the car and hence opened a claim to fix these blemishes to my car. Since I had already paid off everything on my car, adjuster issued a direct check to me for the estimate. I have already encashed the check but I have not fixed my car still.

In the meanwhile I was riding on I-285 in atlanta and some big truck's tire piece was lying on the road which I coud not avoid and has torn off the lower part of my bumper.

My question is can I open another claim for this damage? Will the insurance company's adjusters be smart enough to determine that an earlier claim (with similar damages) for which they settled off is not fixed?

    Please advise.

  • Vista Theme Form Controls in XP?

In my web application we have lot of form controls. Form controls are rendered using the native OS theme unless we specify not to use the theme using meta directives( MSThemeCompatible) or at System/Broswer level.

What I want to know is if there is a way to get IE 6 on Win XP render controls based on Vista Theme? I suppose this would involve getting the Vista Theme installed on the machine where this web application would be used. If yes is there a way to download such vista theme?

Basically, I want to prep up my controls with out having to do lot of images / CSS styling. It would help a ton if the OS supports the theme.

    TIA

  • Freelance Structural Engineering options?

My wife is a qualified Structural Engineer. She has a Masters in Computer Aided Structural engineer and is an expert in ASH/SILO structures. She is also very well versed with AutoCAD and STAAD PRO.

She came to US last year and since the VISA's expired in one day, she did not get a chance to pursue employment oppurtunities. She is now looking for any oppurtunities where her knowledge can be leveraged. She is even ready to do it for free. Basically she wants to get out of house and work.

We are in Altanta. Any body knows any site where structural engineer freelance/oppurtunities are advertised?

Any body has a position in their firm or would use her skills?

  • Table rendering question - Internet Explorer only?

I develop and support an application that basically shows report data in tabular format. I do have the table layout attribute set to fixed and I do see the content before the whole table is loaded. The customers are still complaining because they cannot scroll through the table ( 650 rows) until the whole table is rendered/loaded. We gave them option of Pagination but they are not willing to click. What can I say...I am just a developer.

I did try doing with Div's although offline ... that is I manually generated a report with same number of rows and did not find any noticable difference in the rendering latency.

Rendering latency dramatically increases if the table contains form elements such as radio box, check box, text box and buttons.

Any suggestions / best approaches with HTML table rendering would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Praveen

  • Complete CSS tooltip for Table Cells?

    Hello All,

In my appication, we have tables that contain typically 8 - 12 columns. Number of rows are also high, minimum 150 and maximum of 2500. We have our tables paginated. Each data cell has to have a tooltip describing the column.

So in total 12 * 150 * number_of_bytes_tooltip is the actual amount of data for toltips. I cannot afford this much extra data. I want a clean, pure css implentation for 'td' tooltips.

Things I have tried in the past

    1) Set tooltips on the header - Not acceptable by Project Manager

    2) JavaScript - Run through each cell in the table and set the title attribute appropriately (Too much overhead in processing and Manager does not like the idea)

    3) Hidden Variable approach - Have titles as hidden elements and add event listener for onMouseOver to determine the X and Y position of mouse and compute cell number and retrive the hidden from hidden variable and show tooltip - very complex and did not work well with resize and such.

    Please help!

  • Finding HEAD Information through Java Script?

I want to write a Simple Script that will take a piece of Content in the exisiting page and pop it out as another window.

I am able to get the content (through DOM) and open a new window and write it. How ever the original Page has lots of styling(externalized into CSS) and some script (externalized into JS file) and added in the HEAD section of the document.

All I need to know is through javascript how do I get the external entities (CSS, JS) referred by a document? If I get this information, I could simply use the same in my popped up window and be a happy camper!

    Thanks,

    Rave

  • CSS Table tooltip question?

In my application, XSL produces HTML. For column's with specific styles, we set the class attribute on td and define the style in a CSS file. For tooltips, we set the title attribute of TD. However, if the report has like 500 rows, there is a huge amount of tooltip data replicated. I want to know if there is a way to say in a CSS some thing like this.

Title of Column 1 of table with name/id equal to 'blah' is "Foo1"

Title of Column 2 of table with name/id equal to 'blah' is "Foo2"

If I can set the title based on index, then the size can be a little less because I dont have to generate class attributes for each column.

  • HTML Rendering speed for Combo Boxes (Select tag elements)?

We have a filter section and a report section.

We have a top section (filter) where the user can do some selections (Drop down boxes). This drop down box has like 4 or 5 options in it. Based upon selection, we show them another list (Combo box) which has typically 200 to 300 options. Each of this combo box is wrapped up in a div and using javascript (onChange event) and DOM, we change the display property to none or block (CSS properties). The user can see around 3 options in the combo box. It takes a long time for the browser (IE only) to render just the filter.

We have a table in the report section showing 200-300 rows. I have the table-layout set to fixed so that the browser does not have to compute the widths and the user can see the table before it is completly rendered. If one of the cells in each row is a drop down box with 10 options, the rendering latency is huge. I know we could use div's but we cant at the moment.

Any suggestions? Our browser has and will always be IE.
