  • How much mortgage debt is there in the USA?

Given all the worries about credit in this country, and subprime mortgages, I was curious as to what the entire amount of home mortgage debt is. There are about 110 million households in the country, with 70% of them owned residences. Let's say there are 75 million owned homes. Not all have mortgages, but if 70 million do, and the average mortgage amount on such homes is $200,000, that comes out to a scary $14 TRILLION of mortgage debt in the USA. If just 2% default, the amount of bad home loans is $280 billion. It could obviously be much higher.

Does anyone know what total mortgage debt is per household and in total? This is a real problem that could damage the economy.

  • Which is better and which will you use, Yahoo Answers or "Askville.com", Amazon's clone site?

Just saw Askville.com, and it appears to be the same thing as Yahoo Answers. Is it? Is it better? Why is Amazon doing this, and have they improved on an already good thing enough so that you'll go there instead of here?

  • Does the 2007 Acura MDX have a "snow mode" setting for its transmission like the Lexus RX 350 does?

Living in Colorado, this is a pretty handy feature for an SUV to improve snow traction. I hope the MDX has this snow mode button, because I really like the car, but have been able to find nothing in searching the internet about it.

  • Lexus RX 350 or Acura MDX?

I think I like MDX more, but it's 6" wider and longer, bad for a tight parking space at my office garage. I own a '99 RX 300 with 110k miles on it, so I trust Lexus. My wife wants smooth and quiet ride, and Lexus has the edge there. Any advise?

  • Are right wing pundits like Bill O'Reilly and Ann Coulter certifiably nuts?

Some think the more high-profile right wing talking heads such as Bill O'Reilly and Ann Coulter are really not that sincere and are just out to make money. If so, then they are not "nuts" but just opportunists, trying to gain attention and an audience by being controversial. Their commercial success would tend to encourage future highly polarizing positions on issues. My question deals with their motives - Do you believe they really believe what they say or write all the time, and do you think such strong beliefs makes them nuts? Or do you think we are all being "played" for fools, and they are laughing all the way to the bank?

  • Will the Bush administration go down in infamy?

George W. Bush is sitting at a 38% job approval rating. He may be the most controversial U.S. president since Richard Nixon, and certainly the country is more divided than at any time since the Vietnam War. With the ongoing war in Iraq, new revelations from books such as Bob Woodward's "State of Denial", and the prospect for a change of control of Congress to the Democrats, many believe he is an historically poor president. Some even call for his impeachment. What do you think? Is the Bush presidency a failure? Will it go down in history as historically bad? Or will history look more kindly on the Bush administration just as Harry Truman today is more highly regarded than when he was in office? Why would Bush's image be rehabilitated in the future? Finally, who do you want to see as the President to succeed him?

  • Which stock is cheaper and why, Yahoo or Google?

YHOO has a market cap of $35 billion, while GOOG is over $120 billion. Does that mean YHOO is a better value? Why? Which company is more undervalued in the current market, based on market perceptions compared to the real fundamantals of the companies, in your opinion? GOOG seems like the leader in search and has had meteoric growth, but can YHOO catch up? If I was to give you $10,000 today, how would you allocate it between the two stocks? If you have special insight, live in Silicon Valley, work there or know people who work at the companies, please shed light on your view of the future and what it means for both stocks.
