I am reading Hitchens' 'God is not Great' book, and want to quote Hitchens' views on Kant's categorical imperative in an essay I'm doing and want to know whether Htichens agrees with Kant's view or disagrees with his Deist beliefs. I'll quote the section:
"Kant's principle enjoins us to 'act as if the maxim of your action were to become through your will a general natural law.' (Kant's categorical imperative). In this summary of mutual interest and solidarity, there is no requirement for any enforcing or supernatural authority. And why should there be? Human decency is not derived from religion. It precedes it." (Hitchens, God is not Great')
What I want to know is whether "there is not requirement for any enforcing or supernatural authority" is rejecting Kant's Deist belief or is Hitchens generally agreeing with Kant?2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality6 years ago

Bear with me. This is not an attack on America or the American people by any means. It just seems to me that Americans don't know much at all about the rest of the world. This video shocked and disturbed me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nZy75y2EZU
How can this be justified? I do not want to generalise as I know that of course there are idiots in all nations and there are probably many intelligent Americans. But, I just wonder, is it the American education system that needs to be improved or is it the American media that have left the American public completely unexposed to the rest of the world.
I'll reiterate: this is not an attack on American people or America.
Thanks.14 AnswersOther - Society & Culture7 years ago
What was the situation of African Americans by 1915, i.e. what rights had they gained and generally how had their lives improved since their freedom from slavery.
Thanks in advance.1 AnswerHistory7 years ago

With the amounts of wars and deaths religion has caused and still continue to cause today, do you think religion was the worst thing to be invented?23 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years ago
I felt Celtic were the better team for much of the game. They passed it better than Juve, when hey didn't have the ball they pressed so well and won the ball back. They also should of had at least one penalty. Lichsteiner is a feckin cheat. The main difference of course was that with the few chances they did have, Juve made the most of them. Although Neil Lennon made a mistake in playing Ambrose, he was the only let down for Celtic, missed an absolute sitter! So what do you think?10 AnswersEnglish Football8 years ago
