I am a first-time mom to a beautiful baby boy! My parenting is what most would call "old fashioned"... we don't own a tv, I'm a stay at home mom, we use cloth diapers and we still believe that the rod is a necessary part of child training (when used correctly, of course!). My husband and I live and work in Guatemala as missionaries at the only evangelical Christian school in our area. I love re-arranging my furniture, crafts, painting and cooking... but could do without the cleaning! My greatest joy in life is being a wife and mother, and I pray every day that God helps me to do these things well... I can succeed at many things, but if I fail in those areas I have failed completely! My only expertise is having grown up in a wonderful, caring home, the months I have as a mom, and the many observations I've been able to make as I've moved around between 3 countries and countless cities! My greatest source of encouragement as a home-maker is from

  • Dreaming about dreams?

Is it normal that in a dream I'll actually "remember" things I've dreamt before??? Like I'll be dreaming and in the dream remember something and when I wake up what I remembered was actually something from a different dream I had before! Yikes, or am I just crazy?

  • Should I start solids at 6 months?

My little guy is just shy of 5 months, but I'm wondering if it's necessary to start solids at 6 months, like the drs recommend. I don't want him to miss out on nutritional needs or developmental milestones, but I also really enjoy breastfeeding him, and am reluctant to start him on food.

Anyone else out there wait until their baby was older than 6 months to start on solids???

  • Baby it's cold outside...Will you wake up?

It's recently gotten really cold out, and since we live in Guatemala and don't have heating it's cold inside too. I keep my 4 month old son really warmly dressed (always with a hat and socks!), but it seems like all he wants to do these days is sleep. Does it have anything to do with the cold or is it his age???

  • Fingernail Biters Anonymous?

How on earth can I kick this habit of biting my nails? And I don't want acrylic nails or anything else like that... I just want my own nails to be nice!
