Ok, i have an unsexed russian sand boa here on aspen substrate. It feeds well so far, but the problem is that it always feeds on its enclosure (on aspen substrate). I know it's not good to feed on aspen because of the impaction thing. So what i did before when it eats was to pay close attention when it eats and carefully pulled up any substrate that was mid-swallowed by the snake with my tongs. It just shed a week ago (perfect shed) and it still doesn't wanna eat till now. I believe no sign of impaction yet (no large bulk on the stomach and so on). So how do you train your snake, especially your sand boa (if you have one) to feed on a separate feeding enclosure. It's always shy and won't eat if i pick it up to a separate feeding enclosure. I've tried putting it inside a snake bag left overnight with pinkies but no success. Anyone got any idea? ;) Thanx ^^

Just copy paste this link on new windows to see ^^ See the sand substrate? Is it safe to use for sand boa? Actually it's the sand used for hamsters but it has no aromatic odor. But i find it very dusty as you can see from one of the pictures above. Look at my finger and its nose when i handle it, some of the sand is on its face & nose as well as on my thumb, is it ok? I'm worried it may get respiratory problem or impaction (well it hasn't eaten yet for 3 weeks with me thus it hasn't eaten anything on that sand substrate). Also, i'm just curious, is it in shedding period from the pictures above? Well i don't know how it looks like if a sand boa is gonna shed (obviously because i've never had sand boas before). Could u guyz probably show the pictures of the eyes of a pre-shed sand boa? Thanks a lot ^^

By the way, i always feed my kingsnake and milksnake inside their cages and not to handle them bout a day before feeding time cuz i found that they don't wanna eat if you recently just handled them even if i try to move them to a feeding box, so i decide to just feed them inside their enclosures. But since i can't feed my sand boa inside its enclosure with sand substrate, i guess i should feed it outside then, eh? Is it gonna be intimidated if i handle it just to move him to another feeding container and won't eat? How bout if i try to place a deli cup with pinkies inside its cage? Do you still have to move the snake to the deli cup that way? Well, i'm just worried that mine won't eat since my kingsnake and milksnake won't if i touch it before feeding time. Any suggestion from sand boa experienced people there on feeding technique? Thank u a lot ^^

I'm worried because it didn't eat last week due to shedding period, then if it won't eat again this week, that would make it fast for 2 weeks already. Also, my milksnake (baby) rarely use its hide box but instead it likes to rest on tiny spaces like the space between hide box and the glass wall cage. Could u guyz give me advice to encourage him to eat again? And also bout the hide box, should i get another one or is it the reason why it doesn't wanna eat? (can't use hide box) Thanks a lot ^^

I know that this Yahoo! Answers are intended to help one another. People can ask questions and some people can respond as well. But, why do some people try to mock (by saying stupid or specifically point that someone's answer is ridiculous and stupid)? When someone post a question and another person post an answer to that particular question, you can see sometimes people can say things like "Do the exact opposite of A's answer" or maybe "Do not listen to B's answer, he's ridiculous." I mean, c'mon, I can make mistakes and so can you or any other people. Even professors can sometimes make mistakes. If you, for example, disagree with someone's answer, you can just write a post or answer on your own of what you think is right without saying the name or even mock the one you disagree with. We are learning together here I guess, we're learning to be better. I'm sick when i read some answers where it contains words or sentences that mock other people's opinion. What do u guyz think? ^^

He never bites me anyway, just musk me and it's a no big deal at all. He was just kinda fast and flighty and makes it difficult to handle. (I already know this and this is fine with me). So how to properly handle such babies? I heard that grabbing them by the back is not advised as they may think of you as predator, rite? But if i scoop them and let them walk onto me by themselves, i'm afraid if he will jump off my hands or fingers to the floor and will hurt him. So what do u guyz suggest? Thanks before ^^
