I started a new job a few months ago after searching for months on end after college. I work for a small business (the owner is kind of a family friend). At first, I knew that the job was only kind of/sort of in my field, but I figured that I'm adaptive, and I'll learn to love it. And the pay is pretty good too, so I'd figure it out.
Since the job was rather technical (and hence needing training), my boss said he needed a pretty significant commitment from me to make it worth his while. He wanted to be sure that I wasn't going to up and leave a few months after I started. I said that I would try to make it at least a year before moving.
And here we are, four months later. I'm miserable. I'm the only full-time employee other than my boss, and the part time employees are hardly ever here during the week. My boss shows up two-three hours late every day and I have to find things to do in the meantime (there's only so many times you can review the same things over and over again). He wants me to take more initiative but gets mad at me when I do. I have the Sunday night blues every night of the week. My family and friends are mad because all I want to do when I get home at 5 o'clock is go to sleep and be alone because I am so emotionally exhausted.
So I've barely done a third of what I said I would do in terms of my tenure here. I feel guilty about that. Also, my boss's health isn't that great and if I were to move on he'd be in quite the tight spot.
What should I do?
