• How are you boycotting the NFL, if at all, and how long have you been an avid watcher?

Are you also boycotting the products and companies that advertise with them/support them such as Budweiser, Coke, Fox, CBS, NBC, ESPN, etc.? My feeling is if you really want to make a difference, that's probably the way. DirectTV alone pays them a billion a year. Or are you just not watching the games or buying the merchandise?

  • What is the definition of a snowflake in regards to politics?

I've heard a lot of conservative Republicans call liberal Democrats this, but I'd like to know how they define it to better understand their thought process. I always thought a snowflake was a unique and beautiful thing in nature that is usually a wonder just to be in the presence of one. Is that how they mean it?

It seems to me that in the past it was a lot easier for people to see past party lines, but now it seems that if you have the wrong party name under yours, that you will see little support. This is not to say Obama or Bush were good or bad presidents, but both seem to have lacked the other party's support. Will there come a time with this trend will end? I'm an independent, I tend to agree with some liberal views, but I can be awful conservative on some issues such as education.

  • Why don't many black people go tent camping?

I don't mean to sound stereotypical or that I am just making a generalization here, but I've spoken with a lot of my black co-workers about having a fun little camping trip during the summer, but none of them are interested. In fact, most of them appall tent camping. Is there any reason for this?

How can they print this crap for teenage girls? I've only gotten through one of the books because it's just so awful... I had to check it out since some of my students are reading them. They each horrible values... anyone else have an opinion of this? Why do we glorify people like this?

  • I'm a teacher... I have this student... what would you do?

She e-mailed me the other day apologizing for her lack of effort. She doesn't do her bell-work, she rarely completes her classwork, and doesn't do much homework. I don't give any make-up work, but she is requesting it. She informed me she wouldn't be in school to get the make-up work today because she is on a field trip to an amusement park for fun. She wants the make-up work tomorrow and claims that she will be more focused now. If she fails my class, she will probably not move up to high school. I've offered several extra credit opportunites that she has never taken advantage of. She doesn't know the curriculum well, and will have difficulties next year in the same class. Should I give this kid another chance to do some make-up work? What would you do for her?

  • What is the Dylan Thomas poem mentioned in Cujo?

When Brett Camber and his mom go away, she mentions a Dylan Thomas poem that has something about "Moving through dooms of love." The only poem I can find like this is by Cummings... did King make a mistake here, or am I just not finding the right Dylan poem? Does anyone know the name of it?

  • What are some of the stranger reasons Christians say people will go to hell?

I was just curious what are some of the stranger things that The Bible says will get you to hell... for instance I've heard that eating shellfish is a sin, but does it get you to hell if you don't repent it? Will any old sin get you to hell? What are some of the ones that aren't really practiced anymore, but still in the Bible?

  • Do you think a 7th grader should b able to tell the difference between a common and proper noun?

I've always felt there should be some baseline knowledge that we test students with to see if they belong in the grade that they do. Don't you think a 7th grader, at a minimum should be able to tell the difference between these two things? What are some other things that could be used as baseline knowledge for English?
