  • what to take to a theme park?

My daughters and I are going to Six Flags this week. I've been there lots of times, but not in the last couple years. I read on their website that "loose articles" (purses, backpacks, etc) aren't allowed on some rides. I know the last time I was there I had my purse, but I wonder if things have changed? I'll need some way to carry my phone, money and a camera. Any suggestions?

  • How long for recovery after appendectomy?

Hi everybody! I had an emergency laparoscopic appendectomy 19 days ago. I was in the hospital overnight, and came home the next day. I fully expected to go back to work within a week , but seven days after surgery I couldn't even make it through one full day of work. I was so tired and sore that I had to stay home the rest of the week. The second week I was only able to work three days. Now, I'm still so tired that it's difficult to get through an entire day of work and I nap all the time when I'm home. I've been careful not to lift anything too heavy and I try to eat healthful foods and drink a lot of water, but I'm still extremely fatigued.

I'm frustrated because I keep reading about how this is a "minor procedure" and many articles on the internet say I should be back to normal activities within 1-2 weeks. My doctor said my body will know when I'm ready to go back to work. However, that's not terribly helpful advice when trying to plan my life!

I'd appreciate any advice or first-hand experiences from people who've had this procedure. By the way, I'm 43 years old and I work as a preschool teacher, so my job involves a lot of physical activity.

    Thanks for your help! Jen

  • What's your favorite "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" Quote?

My nephew loves "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" so I'm making him some t-shirts with quotes from the movie. (I'm printing them onto iron-on transfers) I already have a couple quotes in mind, but I'm curious about what other people like.

  • What is the title of this children's story?

I'm looking for the title of a picture book about a young girl who goes to work with her mother. They go to the city and her mother works in a library. I think the illustration on the cover shows the girl and her mother walking along a city street. Can anybody help me remember the title of this book?

  • How early should we arrive at the Harry Potter movie?

We have tickets for the midnight show today. It's a relatively small theater and I want to make sure my two daughters and I get to sit together.

  • I need family meal ideas for vegetarian and meat eaters?

My 15 year old daughter recently decided to become vegetarian. She does eat dairy and eggs.

Her father is a huge fan of meat (he hunts so he eats a lot of wild game). Her twin sister eats meat, and I primarily eat just chicken breast, but I will have lean ground beef occassionally.

How can we combine our eating preferences into easy-to plan and cook meals?

Any meal suggestions or recipes would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

  • homemade gift idea for husband?

My family is exchanging homemade gifts for Christmas this year. I'm really excited about the gift I've made for my daughters but I have no clue what to do for my husband.

A little history... I've made him several homemade gifts in the past, but I could never tell if he really liked them or if he thought they were silly. Some of the things I've done include photo albums, a CD of our favorite songs, coupons, and a book of poetry that I wrote.

I'm stumped about what to do this year because none of my previous ideas were particularly successful. He's interested in outdoor sports such as hunting and fishing, and he just bought a truck that he loves. I thought about putting together a basket of stuff for the truck but I don't know if that counts as homemade.

    Any suggestions?

  • Should my daughters pay for Christmas gifts this year?

In the past I have always given my daughters money to buy gifts for their dad, grandparents and for each other. (About $20 for each gift) Now my girls are 14 years old and they have their own bank accounts with about $900 each. They got this money for graduation as well as occasional babysitting and dog walking. Since they have some money saved up, and money is kind of tight for me I was thinking about asking them to chip in for gifts this year.

I have never given my daughters an allowance because I believe that all family members should participate in household chores without getting paid for it. Instead, I have always bought the girls what they need, assuming it was a reasonable request and within our budget. (Please... no debates about the benefits of giving allowance in your answers. I really do understand both sides of that argument.)

So, do I ask the kids to pay for the gifts they buy this year or do I continue to pay that expense for now? I have my thoughts about this but I'd like to hear your opinions before I reach my final decision.

    Thanks!

  • What style of music do you recommend playing at a garage sale?

I'm having a garage sale this weekend. I"m not new to garage sales... I've had many over the years, and I always play music in the background. I generally go with either country or "adult contemporary" stations on the radio. But I'm curious about the affects of different music styles on shoppers. Has anybody tried anything different at your sales, and what's your experience? I'm thinking of maybe playing some salsa or reggae music for fun. What do you think?

  • Why is my keyboard typing funny numbers and letters?

When I try to type on my desktop computer I get both a letter and a number. For example, if I type the letter W it comes out like "W2". My cat walked across my keyboard so she probably pushed some button, but I can't figure out how to undo it. Please help because I have to type a paper on that computer!

    Thanks

  • Yard sale... front yard or back yard?

I apologize for reposting this question, but I got no responses yesterday and I really would appreciate some opinions.

I have had several successful garage sales at my vacation home, which has a garage and a large yard. But now I'd like to have a sale at my permanent home, in the city. I have a very small front yard and my garage is off of an alley.

Here are my options for this sale:

*Front yard. People who are driving by will be able to see my stuff and parking will be easy, but my yard is tiny so there isn't a lot of space for merchandice.

*Back yard- There will be plenty of space for my stuff and people won't feel crowded. There is plenty of parking on the street. Plus, I have one of those semi-permanent gazebos so there will be a shaded area. But people won't be able to see the sale from the road.

*Garage- I have a 2 and a half car garage, but it's off of an alley, so there's no parking available. People would have to park half a block away and walk down the alley... I don't think they will do that.

So, given the three choices which would you suggest and why.

  • I need to order a cake for my daughters' confirmation near Milwaukee WI...?

Any suggestions for bakeries? I went to Lena's, which is my local supermarket but they wouldn't put a cross on the cake (which surprised me because they play Christian music in the store).

I don't want anything fancy, just something with both of my daughters' names on it and a picture of a cross. And of course, it should taste good!

  • How should my daughters dress for their 8th grade graduation?

My daughters will be graduating from middle school this spring. They are both tom-boys who are more comfortable in jeans and sweatshirts than dresses.

Some of the girls in their class have been planning their dresses for months, but my girls are showing absolutely no interest in this. I personally don't care if they wear pants, but is that acceptable?

  • My daughter's period is lasting 13 days... is that normal?

My daughter is almost 14 years old. She got her first period last month, and it lasted about a week. This month her period has lasted 13 days and is showing no sign of stopping.

Should I be concerned about the length of her period?

A couple things: My daughter is very athletic and extremely thin (she eats fine... it's not an eating disorder), so that's probably why she had the late periods. I wonder if her weight is affecting the length of her cycle. Also, her identical twin sister got her first period almost two years ago and has always had very regular cycles.

  • How do I decorate an ugly Christmas tree?

Help! My husband brought home the world's ugliest Christmas tree and I have no idea how to make this thing look good.

Actually, the top of the tree is ok, but the bottom is almost completely bare. The lower branches are very wide, and have little tufts of needles towards the outside of the tree, but nothing at all at the inner part of the tree.

I've strongly suggested cutting off the bottom branches and the bottom two feet of the trunk, but my husband doesn't want to "lose the height". Personally, I'd much rather have a short tree that looks relatively normal than this weird, freaky tree.

I'm not a Christmas Tree snob. I love the little Charlie Brown trees, but I just don't know what to do with this strange half-naked tree. Please help me figure out if there is a way to disguise the empty branches at the bottom of the tree.

I wish I could show you a picture, but my daughter has my camera for the weekend, so you'll have to use your imagination.

  • What do I do when ebay buyers say my murchandice is not good?

I've been selling on ebay for a while and this has never been a problem before. But recently people have bought something I've sold and then said it had a defect after it arrived.

I know I can get postal insurance to cover this, but that's not the point, in my opinion. I sold something that was in good condition and now the seller is telling me it's not in that condition. If this just happened once I would think the package got damaged in the mail, but the same thing happened twice in less than a week.

Is this a scam? Is there anything I can do?

  • Why can't I consistantly connect to the internet using vista?

I've had no problem with the internet connection on my laptop since I set up my router several months ago. (Setting up the router with vista was a problem in itself, but that's been resolved) All of a sudden, I can't connect to some pages (yahoo.com, for example) Other pages can be connected to at some times, but not others. Sometimes if I refresh the page it connects, and sometimes it doesn't.

Nothing appears to be wrong. All the lights on the router and the computer are doing everything they're supposed to be doing. My desktop has no connectivity problems, so it's not the network.

    Any suggestions?

  • Why won't my powerpoint presentation slides automatically advance?

I inserted very short video clips into some of my slides and now I can't set them up to automatically advance. The slides with photos or words (no video) advance just fine. Does anybody know how to fix this?

    Thanks
