  • Can't install iTunes on XP?

I'm having trouble installing programs in a freshly ghosted XP setup. I try to install iTunes, for example, by double clicking on the icon and click on "run". Then nothing. It quits with no messages. I know it's starting up because I see it in Task Manager. Irfanview also won't install but at least it has the courtesy to display the "...had a problem and needs to close" error.

  • Google Chrome keeps refreshing over and over?

Starting today, every time I open a new browser, it goes from the new tab page to (I am in Taiwan.) ( It used to go to a new tab page with the thumbnails of most used sites. If I manage to ctrl+click on the thumbnails to open a page, it'll first go to that page and then go immediately to the google page and then keep refreshing that.

Nothing is check in the LAN settings. I haven't installed any extensions or plugins. I rarely go to

It doesn't happen if I open an incognito window.

To disable it, I've figured out that I can turn off the internet connection, then restart it. Then it's fine.

It also is not happening on other browsers.

  • Is it possible to eat food that we completely absorb so we don't need to poo?

I know that feces contain more than just undigested material but is there a way to reduce the amount of food that isn't digestible? I don't really have a problem with the "way of things" but am just curious.

  • What's a fun way to teach programming to a 9 year old boy?

He likes video games but doesn't do much else with computers. I've seen Alice and Scratch and am not sure which one to choose.

  • Can I be liable for messages posted on my forum?

Someone wrote a post on my yahoogroup which suggested that a certain business was being deceptive to its employees and customers. The business contacted me directly and said they were going to sue me and the person who posted the "inaccurate" information about them. We met up with the company in question and talked through it. The person who posted eventually bought advertisements in local newspapers publicly apologizing and I was let off the hook.

My question is, what are the legal responsibilities for the organizer of a forum, blog, yahoogroup or any other medium where messages are not vetted for accuracy? Upon signup, everyone is informed that messages do not reflect the board's position. Is that enough?

  • What to do with plastic placemats?

I got about 300 plastic placemats from a friend who makes them. He said I can hand them out to my students but I still have so many left over. Any ideas about any nifty ideas of what to do with them? Craft ideas? They can't be recycled and I've handed out so many already so I'm just stuck with them.

  • Poetry in the ESL classroom-Suggestions?

I'm looking for poetry that could be used in the ESL classroom. I teach elementary school aged ESL children and am looking for poems that are not too challenging in vocabulary but more on fun and other poetic techniques such as rhythm, rhyme, use of metaphor, personification, etc.

I've used "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer with success but even the older students found "The Road Less Traveled By" by Robert Frost too challenging.

  • Motion sickness while playing FPS games?

I started feeling the onset of motion sickness while playing Metroid on the Wii today. This happened when I was playing another first person shooter on the computer a long time ago. I played for about 30 mins and started feeling noxious. It got worse after I stopped. Maybe it built up but within another 30 mins, I was dry heaving. Then I got some motion sickness medicine and a panadol. 2 hours later I feel a bit sick still but waaaay better.

Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know why this would happen?

I usually don't play FPS so haven't had this problem often.

  • Have you heard about a how to story about "how to walk up stairs"?

It was a short story that I read in a college English class. It is an extremely detailed "how to" type story explaining even what parts of the foot or leg to use and what a staircase is. I can't remember the author or even the original language.

  • I'd like to buy some wines for storing over 20 years. Any recommendations?

I'd like to purchase a case of red wine to store for a friend who's just had a baby. I'd like to buy a young wine now because my friend is a wine fan who can store it until their child has reached drinking age.
