Skyrim: Hearthfire Pets Question?

Question

I was wondering if any of you knew if you could have more than one pet?
I have a son and a daughter. My daughter brought home a rabbit. I was wondering if my son could bring home an animal as well?

i don't know about the kids pets but you can bring home a follower animal as a family pet these are all dogs, stray dog (found randomly) meeko (located to the south of Meeko's Shack, by the road, in Hjaalmarch) and vigilance (Markarth Stables, bought for 500 gold) idk about the dawnguard pets but you can probably do it with them as well
