What happened to John Patrick Bunce on bearing sea gold? ?

I really live the show and at the end it showed his picture and said in memore of John Patrick bunce 1985-2012. All I found outbid he died in anchorage on September 1, 2012


Someone please help me out??
I want to know how he died so young :(

John was a great friend of mine. I met him here in Nome 4 years ago and he worked for me at Alaska Gold's Rock Creek Mine. Last Friday night, I met him at the bar and we had a few drinks, catching up. He asked me if I was watching the show and I know but promised I would. We parted ways about 11:30 PM. Around 3:30 or 4:00 AM on Saturday morning, he died of a fatal gunshot wound to the head. He was a great guy and had so much going for him. He will truly be missed.

Accorying to the Nome Alaska newspaper the nugget
On 9-1-12, NPD responded to a reported death
at a residence on First Avenue. Investigation confirmed
the death of John Bunce, age 26 of Nome.
Investigation into the death continues. Bunceʼs remains
were transported to the State Medical Examiner
ʼs Office for autopsy. Next of kin were
notified.

Other info that he died from an accidental gunshot wound?

Police Investigates Man's Death:
In the morning hours of Sept. 1, Nome police officers responded to a
report of an unexpected death on the east end of First Avenue.
NPD confirmed the death of John Bunce, 26 of Nome, but declined to
comment on the manner or cause of death.
NPD said the death is under investigation.
Bunce’s remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

I saw this posted elsewhere: From his aunt’s Facebook page:
“Please pray for my family….we lost our nephew at age 25 from an accidental gunshot Frinday night…he was like a son, he lived in Nome, Alaska and was part ownership of the dredge “The Clark” on Bering Sea Gold..His name is John Bunce. “

Thanks for sharing that info, a lot of folks were wondering about it. I noticed some footage of him earlier in the episode. A tragedy for sure. As a geologist I am fascinated by the show, plus we know some folks in Nome who run a business there.
