How do I remove ceramic tile adhesive from the tiles?

I had my bathroom redone about 5 years ago. A couple of the wall edge tiles have come off and have adhesive on them. They are not broken, so I want to put them back on. How do I get the old adhesive off the tiles without breaking them? There's hardly any adhesive on the wall.

You can try soaking them in warm water for a while and scraping the adhesive off. The adhesive is a water-based product.
