As Christians we must keep focused on and be open to God, that is the core of growth. As we do this, we experience increasing joy, peace, and fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ and fellow believers. We also become increasingly more mature in our Christian walk. The word says: Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2) It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. (Psalm 18:32)
Another thing that comes to mind is that you need to have the fruit of the spirit which is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Gal 5:22-23). You can start by memorizing the following scriptures that list the fruit of the Spirit and meditate on them (Mat 5:3-9, 1Cor 13:4-7, 2Cor 7:11, Gal 5:22-23, Eph 4:2-3, Eph 5:9, Phil 4:8, Col 3:12-15, 1Tim 6:11-12, 2Tim 2:22, 2Pet 1:5-7). As you grow in the spirit you set an example for others of what a true Christian is all about.
Also by getting involved in your community and being a beacon of light. We are to be servants and in order to do that we mush get out and see what the needs are. Visiting the sick, feeding the hungry, providing shelter for the homeless ... the Lord says when you do it for them you are doing it on to Him (Matthew 25:40.45). There are plenty of organizations that help with this that need volunteers. Also when tragedy happens people need prayer and to be encouraged. That "one on one" ministry is so needed. Thinking about others and not of ourselves shows maturity in the Lord.
