Easy. By suffering.
Colossians 4
Amplified Bible (AMP)
12Epaphras, who is one of yourselves, a servant of Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. [He is] always striving for you earnestly in his prayers, [pleading] that you may [as persons of ripe character and clear conviction] stand firm and mature [in spiritual growth], convinced and fully assured in [a]everything willed by God.
+++"Question: "What is spiritual growth?"

Answer: Spiritual growth is the process of becoming more and more like Jesus Christ. When we place our faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit begins the process of making us more like Him, conforming us to His image. Spiritual growth is perhaps best described in 2 Peter 1:3-8, which tells us that by God's power we have “everything we need” to live lives of godliness, which is the goal of spiritual growth. Notice that what we need comes “through our knowledge of Him,” which is the key to obtaining everything we need. Our knowledge of Him comes from the Word, given to us for our edification and growth.

There are two lists in Galatians 5:19-23. Verses 19-21 list the “acts of the flesh.” These are the things that identified our lives before we came to Christ for salvation. The acts of the flesh are the activities we are to confess, repent of, and, with God’s help, overcome. As we experience spiritual growth, fewer and fewer of the “acts of the flesh” will be evident in our lives. The second list is the “fruit of the Spirit” (verses 22-23). These are what should characterize our lives now that we have experienced salvation in Jesus Christ. Spiritual growth is identified by the fruit of the Spirit becoming increasingly evident in a believer’s life.

When the transformation of salvation takes place, spiritual growth begins. The Holy Spirit indwells us (John 14:16-17). We are new creatures in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). The old nature is replaced with a new one (Romans 6-7). Spiritual growth is a life-long process that depends on our study and application of God's Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and our walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-26). As we seek spiritual growth, we should pray to God and ask for wisdom concerning the areas He desires us to grow in. We can ask God to increase our faith and knowledge of Him. God desires for us to grow spiritually, and He has given us all we need to experience spiritual growth. With the Holy Spirit’s help, we can overcome sin and steadily become more like our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

    The bible is pretty clear about how to grow spiritually. First, you need to know who you are in Christ and what God's grace has provided for you to live the Christian life. Everything else from there is simply living in response to God's grace as found in Romans 12:

    1. Presentation - 100% full on commitment

    2. Separation - be not conformed to this world

    3. Transformation - be transformed by the renewing of your mind. This is by immersing yourself in the teaching of God's word. Not just 4 or 5 minutes a day either. Try 4 or 5 hours.

    4. Occupation - employing the spiritual gifts God has given to you by His Spirit in the service of Christ in your local church.

    Guaranteed to produce growth that will exceed your greatest expectations.

    As Christians we must keep focused on and be open to God, that is the core of growth. As we do this, we experience increasing joy, peace, and fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ and fellow believers. We also become increasingly more mature in our Christian walk. The word says: Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2) It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. (Psalm 18:32)

    Another thing that comes to mind is that you need to have the fruit of the spirit which is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Gal 5:22-23). You can start by memorizing the following scriptures that list the fruit of the Spirit and meditate on them (Mat 5:3-9, 1Cor 13:4-7, 2Cor 7:11, Gal 5:22-23, Eph 4:2-3, Eph 5:9, Phil 4:8, Col 3:12-15, 1Tim 6:11-12, 2Tim 2:22, 2Pet 1:5-7). As you grow in the spirit you set an example for others of what a true Christian is all about.

    Also by getting involved in your community and being a beacon of light. We are to be servants and in order to do that we mush get out and see what the needs are. Visiting the sick, feeding the hungry, providing shelter for the homeless ... the Lord says when you do it for them you are doing it on to Him (Matthew 25:40.45). There are plenty of organizations that help with this that need volunteers. Also when tragedy happens people need prayer and to be encouraged. That "one on one" ministry is so needed. Thinking about others and not of ourselves shows maturity in the Lord.

    What a wonderful question...being motivated to grow in your relationship with Jesus is an excellent pursuit. I've learned something that seemed to "turn my world on it's head". So often we think of growth as something we do, more effort we put in....it turns out that in relating to Jesus...we're relating to a Person. A relationship based on performance will not work very well. For example..if my daughter learns that the only way I will love her is if she gets A's straight through school...our relationship will quickly become very false. Jesus is not looking for harder work...He's not a task master. This has meant I've had to re-evaluate all of the energy and exhaustive effort I put into pleasing Him. As I become more aware of His love for me, rather than becoming lazy it's actually freed me to more fully rely on His strength and life and also to move forward when He shows me. This is a big change from when I would do lots of things that I thought were good which He wasn't asking of me at all. Rather than the exhaustion of all that fruitless effort...I'm learning that as I collaborate with Him the people and events He brings to me I have all the energy I need for that. Hope that this is helpful...at least we're getting the conversation started.
