Fathers, would this make you quit smoking?

I want my dad to quit smoking and I've told him many times and he does it for a week and then stops. It really hurts me and I just want to know if saying something along the lines of I want you to actually be there at my wedding or meet your grandchildren would really get him to stop. Anyone with experience in this have any insight or dads as well? Would you think it would be good to buy him Nicorette possibly? I want to really make him want to stop.

You can try recommending him champix. This is the best thing to help people quit smoking. I have two friends that were passionate smokers and tried everything and nothing worked. When they tried champix, they quit almost instantly.

And of course, give him your support.

Look Sarah, the nicotine addition is so incredibly powerful that there is nothing you can do to stop him smoking. I'm so sorry to say this but you are wasting your time on this. Please don't feel that his smoking is anything you can correct - he can't stop for anyone or anything. There is heaps of information available on the dangers of smoking and he is well aware of it. This problem does NOT mean he does not care about you or himself. This product is evil and it distorts logical thought.

telling him that might help. but its a problem because if he smoked his whole life then he might not be able to stop. and if you get him to stop he might start over eating and get really fat which doesn't exactly help you keep him around for your wedding. try to persuade him to smoke less cigarettes a day. it might be good to start like that. talk to your mom she might be able to "give him an offer he can't refuse"

btw the other answer about quitting is bullshit. sorry man but almost any addiction can be broken. if you set your mind to it. its all in the head and you're not really addicted (very few things addict you physically) mostly all addictions are purely in your head...you only think you can't stop. but it can be done and it was done i know people that have done it.

Most smokers want to stop and if there was a magic method or supplement that worked for everybody, there would probably only be a couple of smokers left in the world. So it’s pretty clear that whatever methods may be suggested, they do not work for all of the people who try them, every time.

Finding the easy way is often just a matter of doing it at the right time. This means that instead of deciding you will quit tomorrow, or next week, or on January 1st, you should act any time when you feel a strong desire to quit.

First: To quit smoking, the person has to decide himself. No one else can make that choice... it is extremely difficult and takes alot of will power... he has to want to do it himself.

Second: Love him no matter what. Everyone has imperfections, but thats life, and we learn to love and treasure them for as long as they live

I quit smoking 100 times in my lifetime. I finally reached a point where I KNEW I needed to stop - so - I quit by using the 'Patch'. Back then, when they first came out, you had to get them by prescription - but - now - you can get them over the counter. It will not do it ALL - he must do HIS part, too. It just takes the craving away. There was a series of (3) stages - at that time. You applied a new patch each day for 2 weeks that has 21 mg of nicotine in it. The next two weeks, you go to the next stage - a daily patch that puts 14 mg of nicotine in your system. The final 2 weeks, you apply a patch daily containing 7 mg of nicotine. It gradually weans you off nicotine. You cannot smoke while wearing the patch or you will overdose on nicotine. If he can make it thru that 6 weeks - he can probably make it all the way. But - he MUST make a commitment to HIMSELF to stop. All your talking, begging, yelling, preaching & pleading won't do any good until he admits to himself he has a problem & is ready to deal with it.

Get him to look on line at electronic cigarettes. It sounds like he's willing to "try again" but dang it hard to quit smoking. Here's some forums to check out vapersforum.com, e-cigarette-forum.com, nu-vapor.com oh, and look at some vids on youtube.

It got me to quit and I smoked for over 30 years.
