I'd say switch to non-filtered, that way you getting a deeper, more productive (phlegm) throaty cough. I suggest Camel's, they actually taste sweeter w/o the filter.

You may just be at higher risk than your friends for coughing- maybe the smoke irritates your lungs more than it irritates theirs. This might mean that you're at more risk of future problems too, such as COPD and lung cancer, so I'd recommend you quit. As far as I know there is nothing that you can take to clear the cough unless you also stop smoking.

Since you've accepted the dangers of smoking then you'll have to accept the side effects that go along with it. I can tell you this, I've been in the operating theatre and have seen the lungs of smokers, they are covered with carbon deposits that you wouldn't believe. So, go ahead and puff that cigarette but, stay out of my air space.

    ummm, stop smoking???!!!!

Imagine what it's like not to be able to take a breath without it being agonising, and ask yourself WHY you would choose that. Your body is telling you that you're on the wrong path. Have you seen thank you for smoking?

Also ask yourself if you would put your mouth over an exhaust pipe and breath the fumes. Or how you would feel if you saw a little child smoking. (What makes you any less worthy than a child?)

(go visit a cancer clinic and ask them what they think.)

My first thought was that this was a question only put to infuriate non smokers and medical personal. Why don't you ask your friends who have been smoking longer. I could ask one of my dying patients about smokers cough if you like, but I know what there response will be cause I have heard it over and over......All the pleasure I got from smoking it is not worth all the suffering that I have now.

Coughing is your lung's way to react to the tar that's building up in your lungs.
    Plain and simple.
If you want to be cool, live with the cough.

Well .. I'd say stop smoking.
BUT, Seeing as though you don't wanna hear that,
It's new to your body and the smoke is tough on your lungs.
the more your body adapts to it, the less you'll find yourself coughing
But you'll probably also find that when you get ill such as flu and chest infections your cough will be 10 times worse than a normal smokers cough because of all the tar in your lungs. It makes you lung capacity smaller and therefore, shorter smaller breaths making the cough harder to deal with.
    Menthol Cigarettes are nice :)
    Best of luck
