How much do tarrifs and taxes cost on a conatiner shipped into the US?

I am thinking about shipping a container of goods from Japan here to San Francisco, the prices on my products are great. The container will cost me about 35k. But I am wondering what kind of taxes I should expect to have to pay on the importation?

It depends on the type of goods you're bringing and the country you're bringing from. Since the country is Japan, search to see if there are any treaties between Japan and US for the taxability or non-taxability of the type of goods you're bringing.

Depends upon what's in the container. Duties depend upon the exact items being imported, the materials that they are made of, and the country of origin of the goods. Note that the country that they're shipped from may not be the same as the country of origin!

Duties can range from 0% to several hundred percent. There's no possible way to tell without much more information. You need to contact US Customs & Border Protection for information on the duties.

You'll probably also need to arrange for a commercial broker to handle the paperwork as well. The broker will charge a fee, typically based upon the value of the goods and the time that they spend on clearing the goods through customs.
