Christmas portrait......matchy matchy or not?

Question

In a picture is it better to dress kids in matching outfits or coordinating outfits...I have found the sames sweater in all thier sizes online...not sure if its too tacky

NOO! i hate it when people do that.

I think it just look weird. Let your kids choose their own outfit even if it's just jeans and tee. i think they look better and more real

i think it can be kind of tacky. cotton had the right idea. go for outfits that coordinate. have a color scheme and try to dress everyone according to the color scheme.

I think matchy matchy is pretty tacky. Plus it sends the message "we are all alike" which just isn't true in a family (kinda like how some parents dress twins identically their entire lives...). But photographers do agree that when multiple parties dress in very similar shades it makes for a better photograph. The focus should be on your face and a variety of colors would be distracting. If your kids are old enough, allow them to pick what outfit they like as long as it's the shade you want. Bobby can pick a blue sweater, Sarah can pick a blue & white dress, Emily can pick a baby blue button up blouse.

If you want the picture to look uniform but not tacky, you can find tops for the girls that are all the same color (not the same style though), and do the same thing for the boys. One of our family pictures consisted of the women wearing raspberry colored shirts and the men wearing light blue. It looks nice when everyone's wearing the same colors but not necessarily matches.
