What does it mean? You tell us! Have you been ignoring IRS? Are you behind in filing taxes? Do you owe IRS money? If none of the above, then don't worry! The agent could have a wrong address, wrong Taxpayer or looking for a neighbor.
So does the card have a phone number to contact the agent? If so call right now, don't wait!
Good luck! You aren't going to jail.

No. But it may mean they have been trying to reach you by mail over some issue and you have not responded.

Have you received anything in the mail about either of your previous 2 tax returns? They are probably auditing you or might be auditing someone you know (parents perhaps). I doubt you would go to jail even if you had a sketchy return since you can't pay them back in jail. If you had a large refund recently on your taxes then it probably has something to do with that like if you claimed EIC and wasn;t suppose to get it. But just relax if they wanted you arrested then you would have been in jail by now.

I would not get worked up about it. If they were investigating you for due cause, they would show up when they know the business is open. By leaving his card it should be considered non-threatening. Give the guy a call and ask what he is seeking.

The same thing happened to us this summer. We were terrified to call, but did. It turns out that they were investigating the person who did our taxes, who also happens to work for the irs. They only had questions about him.

Probably, he or she wants unfiled returns or back taxes. Also, he could be investigating someone else's unfiled returns or back taxes that he think you may know something about.

Call the number on the card, and ask.

If they'll going to send you to jail, they don't leave a card.

It means he has questions for you. He's investigating someone that you have had business contact.

(It could be a former employer.)
    (It could be a client.)
    (It could be a friend.)
(It could be a store where you frequently purchase goods.)

NOW, if TWO agents came to your door, that's when you're going to the pokey.
