Do brick & mortar stores still sell copies of 2008 tax software?

Question

I'm wondering if places like Wal-Mart, Staples, OfficeMax, or anywhere else still sell copies of tax software for the 2008 tax year. And if so, will it be discounted?

I would be using this software to file my 2008 taxes which I haven't done yet(federal and state)

I'm sure they do. However, you will save yourself a lot more money in the long run if you go to a professional to deal with your 2008 taxes.

I saw it in Wal-Mart a month ago but you shouldn't use them to file your return in January (which would be the 2008 tax year). If you did use it, you could lose lots of money since the government is cutting us a break and lowering income guidelines for certain credits and deductions. If you are worried about the cost then you could do what I did for last year before I became a tax preparer. I went on the hrblock.com site and was able to file online for free and it was really simple. I don't know if they will have it again this year but I wouldn't doubt it.

I would highly doubt it. Most stores have limited shelf space and only stock merchandise that they know they can sell.

The software companies give the stores credits for the copies of the software that they haven't sold after April 15. So most companies would have sent back their copies then.

You should still be able to do them online through one of the software companies' websites.
