Will being on welfare effect my eligibility to immigrate to the US?

Question

If I'm on welfare (in Canada) when my husband applies to petition me as his spouse to immigrate to the US, would that effect the outcome of the petition?

Additional Details

I was in a severe car accident while I was in school and had to apply for disability. But while disability is pending, I was put on welfare. So your smart *** comment about freeloading is really rude and uncalled for.

Spike, I'm sure there is a clause with that. And I wasn't planning on going on US welfare. Once I'm finished rehab, I will be able to work again, which it should be finished by the time the petition goes through.

You husband is your support or anyone else thats signs the I-864

(Drbne ..not the I-134)

All that matters is the ability of your husband to provide financial support for you.

Your husband would need to provide proof of support by using the USCIS form I-134, Affidavit of support. He will need to sufficiently prove to USCIS that he can financially support you so you will not become a public charge (welfare) in the U.S.

USCIS will have an issue with you, but if your husband can prove he can financially support you, then you will not have any more problems in regards to you receiving welfare in Canada.

YES, because the USA now passed a new law that if you come into this country and cannot support yourself and just go on our welfare system you can get arrested and spend up to three years in prison.

Even if you were 100% on your feet (metaphorically speaking) and working in a great job, the US would not consider your job when processing your application. Your being able to work is irrelevant. It is your husbands ability to support you that counts. As long as he can meet the income guidelines then you would not have any issue (in regards to this). You of course have to successfully jump all the other hoops lol.
