Do you have to file taxes if you only made $1,500 for the year and have no dependents?

You don't have to. You may if you want to.

Did you support yourself during the year? That is, are you a dependent yourself? (Under age of 24 if in school, under 18 if not.) Did you have your own home or did you live with your parents?

If you don't qualify to be a dependent, then you may get a refund of some tax credits totaling $210, plus any federal taxes that were withheld, if any.

If your refund is only $210, you could try to do your own tax return when the IRS has its free e-filing program in place. If you can't do it yourself or have a friend or family member capable of preparing the return for you, it may not be worth it because you would have to pay somebody to prepare the tax return and at your income level, it may not be required.

(If you are a dependent of your parents, you will have to file.)
