What are the steps for adoption?

we would like to adopt a child between 3 and 8 and it is so hard to figure out how to prepare for adoption and know what the steps are without committing to anything. We do not plan on adopting for a few yrs but would like to be prepared. I also heard it is kind of expensive and I want to start saving because we will have get their room set up and buy them clothes and toys and everything too. Any information you can give me would be great just to help us be better prepared and be able to give them whatever it is they want or need. I can't imagine the joy of providing and changing the life of a child like that.

I think the first step would be to get your feet wet by attending parenting classes. If you could volunteer to work with foster children or be a Big Brother or Big sister, that would be great.

The process for getting cleared for foster care and adoption are just about the same, so if you apply to be foster parents, you would be beginning the process without any commitment. There are class you will need to attend, that will introduce you to the challenges and rewards of adoption.

Getting the room ready and the toys come much later, because you will need to tailor your purchases to the individual child's age. The simpler the room the better, I think. A lot of 'things' is unnerving to a newly placed child. They just need lots of one on one time with loving adults.

Adopting through foster care is what I am for. I was a foster child, adopted by my foster parents at the age of two. Adopting from foster care you are adopting a child that has normally no biological family, or no biological family in the right mind frame to raise a child. You can foster-to-adopt, where you foster a child that will end up for adoption and adopt the child if you feel that it's the right match.

Fostering or adopting from foster care doesn't cost anything is some places, but for documentation, criminal record check are the things you have to pay for which is nothing compared to adopting through an agency.

There are a lot of children between the ages of two through to their teens that need homes, but because they are not "newborns" or "Caucasian" they are not of demand, sad, very sad.

    Adopt from the Foster System!

Well every state had different laws. But I believe they are all the same when it comes to you have to have a home study and also show you have a room for them to live in.
    Good Luck
