Can a minor put themselves up for adoption?

Okay, first of all. My mom is a lesbian, whose partner is very abusive, she pushed me into walls and has tried to push me down the stairs on many occasions.I'm 14. i know if i call child protection services i'll just be sent to my dads. But he's mentally abusive, but not phisically abusive. I have a friend's family who is very willing to adopt me. Is there any possible way i can do it myself? a petition? a emancipation? Help please.

Unfortunately, even though you are 14 you cannot "give" yourself up. You by law are still legally a minor and under the custody of your mother unless she terminates her parental rights, which your biological father would have to do the same.

For your safety, you would have to call CPS and if you are concerned about going to your father's then state the emotional abuse he puts you through and then you'll be place with another family member or in a foster home.

Unfortunately, you cannot put yourself up for adoption unless both your mother and father sign over their parental rights.

So sorry to hear what you are going through.

You can try but usually there is some sort of waiting list when it comes to adoption. Your friends family may not be able to simply adopt you. You could just tell your lesbian mom you are staying at your dads and tell your dad you are staying at you lesbian moms and actually be at your friends.

Wow, I really feel bad for you. I'm not sure if you can put yourself up for adoption, but you should probably talk to a counselor at school or something. Or get your friend's parents to notify the authorities or someone who can help you. Good luck and I'm so sorry you have to deal with a situation like that.

A child of your age can only be placed for adoption in one of two circumstances:

    1) If you are removed from your home due to abuse or neglect and no other family (including your biological father) can or will take you in; and

    2) If both of your parents agree to you being placed for adoption. They would need to legally sign away their rights.

Without either of those two circumstances being met you are out of luck.

Your parents could give guardianship to your friend's family.

If you were legally adopted please bear in mind that your original birth certificate will be sealed away and you will have trouble obtaining a passport (the passport regulations stipulate that a birth certificate used for ID must be filed within one year of birth' the amened birth certificate you'd get with an adoption would be filed at least 14 years after birth and no access to the original. Ever)

im sorry you have to go through all that...
thats is very sad espeacially the fact your 14
you can try to get emanicipated
but theirs a really long wait list and it takes a long time
also their are strings attached to being emanicipated
.you have to have a job
.you have to have somewhere to live
    and the list goes on...
also if you cant support your self, which no offense you might not be able to because your 14, they will place you back with one of your parents..willing or non-willing to go back

as of your friends parents wantin to adopt you..they can try to but they also have to go throught the court system...

    good luck!!

Not sure that you could be place yourself for adoption, however, if you are being abused, you need to report it to CPS. You can also tell them your dad is mentally abusive and you don't want to live with him either. At 14 judges listen. You are old enough. However, not sure if that family could adopt you, which is very sad. I pray that you get some help before something even more serious happens to you. What does your mom do? Allow this woman to abuse you? She must if she is still with her.
