Am I entitled to a Bath in my property (UK)?

Hey, I've just moved into a house and it has a walk in shower room (was for a disabled person) and it doesn't have a bath, does anybody know if I am entitled to one? It's a housing association/council property. Can anyone please help? :)

No, not all properties have the space for a bath. You accepted the place with shower only so for the rest of the lease have showers only -or bathe at a friends home.

you must have viewed the peoperty before you accepted it?? They council /HA will not pay for a bath to be put in for you, if you wanted the council/HA to do the job you will be charged for the bath tub and the installation costs. You have sufficient equipment to be clean , thats the way they will see it, same as you have hot and cold running water, a fully working toilet system and sink units etc do u see what im saying???

basically " if u want a bath tub, it will cost you ", even if your on benefits

Nope your not - you took the property knowing that there was no bath in it. You are entitled to facilities to wash yourself and you have that in your shower.

I would call the council and ask them as they normally have money for this kind of thing however it wont be a priority

Why didn't you notice before you moved in? You have a shower to wash, so I don't think you are entitled for free.

I doubt that you are entitled to a bath. I would assume that the landlord is only obliged to provide washing facilities and that a shower would be classed as adequate facilities. Just the same as for a private landlord.

As long as it has a shower you aren't entitled to a bath. Some of the older properties in my area when the were modernised about 20 years ago only had showers put in them.

There certainly isn't anything like that in US. When you sign a lease, you are agreeing to accept the residence "as is." You can't sign a lease and then ask for a major renovation job. If it was legal with the tenant before, it is legal with you.

No you are not entitled as you have a shower which is perfectly adequate for washing purposes. You could put in a bath but it would be at your own expense.

I live in Canada, so the rules may be different but in this case I think not. Here, no, you are not entitled to a bath. The unit has a shower which is all they need to provide.

Although I think not, you could ask the local Housing people. Could be they will restore the bath but I have a feeling you are not 'entitled'. It would be so, I think, if it were the other way round (alterations for a disabled person), but like so many things these days, it doesn't pay to be 'normal'. lol

Add - I suppose, with permission, you could install a bath yourself, but you'd have to pay for it, + the work. Baths on their own are not that expensive these days, but the work ..?

That's a difficult one, could be claimed that you have the means to keep yourself clean,.
I wonder why they have let the property to you if you are in fact able and well, also why they have not prioritised the letting to a disabled person who would gain greater benefit of the walk-in shower?
Have a word with them and see whether they can give you a letting more suitable to your needs.

    No you're not

you have adequate washing facilities with the shower, and plenty people don;t have a bath nowadays
just think it will be more economical in the long run as you'll use less power to have a shower, than a bath
