    Cut it in half.
    Remove the seeds.
Put some butter, salt and pepper and then lay it cut side down on a baking sheet.
Put it in the oven at 350 for about an hour.

Another option is to make soup. I use chicken stock, one squash, one onion, and a few potatoes. Cook everything in a pot until the squash, onions, and potatoes are soft. Then puree them in a food processor and enjoy.

Yes. Cut in in half and hollow out the seeds. Take butter and brown sugar and fill the void you hollowed out and then bake in the oven until it is soft all the way through

You cook the whole thing the same way. When you mention cooking the middle round part separately, you may be confusing butternut with acorn squash. That one is all round, so it's all middle part.

You can halve butternut lenthwise and roast it face down on a baking sheet (brush cut surface with oil). You can also cube all the flesh, coat it with olive oil and roast it.

Butternut squash is also nice imply steamed or boiled and mashed but the flavor really benefits from roasting.

You can also cook it in the microwave. I had some recently that they sprinkled with pumpkin pie spice in addition to the butter and brown sugar. Very good!

Easiest way= slice in half. Cover in butter, salt and pepper.
Bake in a very hot ovenn, the stem part is good and the middle part- you can eat it all!
When it's soft, take out and peel off the skin.
Cut into slices and and top with poached egg, grated edam cheese and soysauce.

    Preheat oven to 350 F

Wash squash and then cut lengthwise down the middle

Scoop out the seeds and crud

Lightly coat the exposed meaty parts of the squash with butter or olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste, with a touch of ground ginger (or cinnamon, or nutmeg, your preference - for a sweeter taste, use cinnamon sugar)

Place cutside up in a baking pan with about an inch of water in the pan

Cook until fork tender -- usually about 1 hour. The squash should be lightly browned

After cooking, you can either serve the squash in the shell, or cut into quarters, or scoop out the squash meat. Some folks mash it or blend it, but I like it with a little more texture.
