Is it healthy to allow my dog to sleep in my bed?

Question

I'm not talking about a healthy relationship, I wanna know if there are any health risks you're taking when you allow your dog to sleep in your bed. Any at all.

Additional Details

I'm not sure if this matters or not be SHE'S a Pomeranian Chihuahua mix. She actually has no problem, what so ever, sleeping on the floor either.

I am nearly 50 and have had dogs and cats all my life. They were never banished from my bed and I have never had any problems. No fleas, no worms, no diseases whatsoever.

If your dog has fleas or other parasites, there is a possibility they will transfer to you, but if your dog is well taken care of, there is nothing to worry about.

Well if your dog gets fleas or ticks then it can be transmitted to you. There are also other bacteria and viruses, etc. which are contagious which can be transmitted to humans through dogs. I would just get the dog used to his/her own bed.

The only problem I can think of is you rolling over on injuring a small dog or a very large dog rolling over and injuring you.

No not at all it is totally normal and will not harm anyone. People let their dogs sleep in their beds all the time don't be worried. Just make sure that your dogs doesn't have anything wrong with him, like worms fleas ticks anything like that. Make sure he is healthy also :)

As long as the dog is healthy-no ticks, lice, fleas etc. it's fine. But once you do that, you'll never get them out of your bed. Forget it if they snore too.

its fine! and it allows for a closer relationship with u and the dog. dogs love to sleep with their "pack", it establishes trust.

When & if you invite someone to share your bed, kicking the dog off of the bed for your privacy will be nearly impossible. She'll sit at your door and scratch, and cry--total chaos. If I had a pup, I'd crate train her.

No it is not ok dogs have some kind of germ in their penis that is bad for humans.You can get a rash when you sleep in the bed with your dog because of that!

If the dog sleeps in your bed, it crosses a boundry between owner and pet. I dont mean to sound cruel, I have had dogs and loved them to bits but the bed was a no go area, she used to sleep on the floor beside me on a big sponge bed. If you allow the dog into the bed the dog believes it to be your social equal and any kind of privacy you may want or need sometime you will be met with great resistance.
It's very tough though, trust me, I know...
