Dogs don't like to pee where they sleep, therefor they generally will not pee in the crate. I suggest getting an appropriate crate, something he can turn around and lie down in, but not big enough for him to use a corner for a bathroom and sleep in the rest, and preferably with only one side to see out as opposed to a open wire crate, of so it has a den like feel. Then introduce him to the crate. Make it a positive experience. Put a blanket or mat down, put in a few toys and give him a few treats in there with the door open. Then close the door and praise him for being calm. Then leave the room for a few minutes and come back to let him out and play with him, and repeat with longer time intervals until he is comfortable being alone in the crate(most dogs like having there own "den" so it shouldn't be an issue). Make sure to give him enough potty breaks, small dogs have small bladders.

Well if you let him out of the crate he will think it is ok to pee. When he's in the crate he wouldn't want to sit there in his own pee. So what you do is you leave him in his crate at night. And when he's unsupervised, put him in it 2. that is how it works with our dog and she does fine.
    hope this helps!
    Good luck!!

    Hi,

Crate training is the easiest way to housetrain dogs, and it also teaches them how to settle down and entertain themselves when you're gone. However, crates won't work if they're used to punish a dog or keep him out of sight, out of mind. Here are the training tips:

Locking him up while you're gone is what crate training is for.

He will not pee inside his crate, because he will only have enough room to turn around and if he did use the bathroom, he would have to lay in it. When he has the house, he can just pee somewhere and leave it and not have to worry about it, so he doesn't have to hold in it.
