How did the Constitution lead to secession?

By the 1850’s the Constitution, originally framed as an instrument of national unity, had become a source of sectional discord and tension and ultimately contributed to the failure of the union it had created.

Why is this?

No it did not contribute to the failure of the union it created. Your commie teacher is spreading lies. The source of sectional discord was that States were rapidly being added to the Union and it had to be decided if each would be free or slave. Basically it was all about a political land grab because The South knew if the new States were free, it would be outnumbered in Washington and it was not prepared to give up owning people as property.
