Why is my 9 year old collie is whining for no reason?

I have a 9 year old collie, who will be 10 in March. A week ago she randomly started whining in the middle of the night, we looked around to make sure there's wasn't anything bothering her like mice or anything, we couldn't find anything. She didn't do it again until last night, and we looked around again and we couldn't find anything to explain why she was whining. We fed her about three hours before she went to bed, and we took her out, but she didn't need to go to the bathroom and when she came back in she still kept whining. I know older collies can have problems with their hips, but I haven't noticed any problems with her walking. Could anyone please tell me if there's something I can do or why this is happening? I'd start with a vet visit to make sure there's no physical problems you can't see. When you are there, ask about canine cognitive disorder. It is similar to Alzheimer's in humans.

Dogs as smart as collies do not EVER whine for no reason. Check her pads and clip her nails. Brush her, check for tics, fleas and other bugs. Arthritis?

Sounds like she is in pain. Please have her evaluated at the vet. She could have arthritis, an infection or a tumor that you have not discovered. She would not whine for no reason.

Besides the fact of something being wrong with her which is most likely she could be scared of something.

Best thing is to call & talk to your vet. Explain all the symptoms. Is she fed the same time every night? Try feeding her in the morning & see if she has the same whining a while after she eats. It could be something internal having to do with her digestive tract. She could also have arthritis problems & need to be on meds.

Well maybe you can try examining the body and see if there is any type of womb and i would keep her in your room and keep a watch on her. There might be something wrong with him/her and maybe he needs attention.
