My computer doesn't detect my cd/dvd burner?

At the beginning of my computer the cd/dvd burner does show that it has power to it. but, when i try to put a cd or a dvd it won't open! This happen after i burned a cd and then uninstalled a program.

    Does it show up in My Computer even?
    You said that when you boot up the light on the drive comes on indicating it has power, does the light blip on when you push the button to eject the drive?
    It shouldn't matter what program you uninstalled it shouldn't affect the drive like that, but what was the program you uninstalled?

    maybe you uninstalled the drivers for it. just reinstall them and see if it works for you.
