Is my gated yard considered part of the "rental unit" or "dwelling" in California?

Part of my leased space includes about an acre of yard along with the house. My landlord says that he doesn't have to give 24 hours notice to come in the gate and onto the property. Is that true?

CA law only states that notice is required to enter the dwelling...not exterior property. There is no statute that addresses otherwise.
