Advice on dying something?

Hello,
I was thinking about dying a dress i have so i can re use it this christmas.
The dress is a light lilac colour with lilac ribbed ribbon details outlining the bust area.
The label states the material is 98% coton and 2 % elastane with the lining 96% acetate and 4% lycra. It also states it is dry clean only.
I wanted to dye the dress either black or a very deep shade of purple but having neved dyed anything before but i do not want to ruin the dress. I am after a solid colour result without blotches.

Is this possible?

The fact the dress is dry clean only makes this a little more difficult.

I am always re dying faded black trousers in my washing machine.

You need to first of all take a chance and see how the machine set on hand wash washes the dress. Line dry it and see how the shape holds.
If it is okay then you will probably be okay to dye it.
But it is a chance you will have to take with the washing.
