In the UK, what are mental health professionals (therapists, psychologists etc) required to report to police?
I read an article referring to US therapists which mentioned that some people with treatable problems are put off seeking help as they fear being reported to the police? Is this also the case in the UK?

There is a fairly consistent confidentiality code which is well adhered to. There are some circumstances e.g threats to harm yourself or others where your professional may inform you that they are going to contact an appropriate authority. The only exception is a risk of terrorism where the professional must inform the police and not tell the client.

They only call the police if the patient is an immediate harm to themselves or anyone else.
