Free Cell Service Provided For a Welfare Riddled Society?

Question

Is this part of the change, hope, healthcare and rubbish that Obama is promising? Personally, I'd rather be spending these tax dollars on the defense budget ( which is being hacked apart as we speak ) for government funded programs such as this.

That's what they do in Poland. Imagine how the hard working Germans feel when they see someone in Poland with a free phone or a free car when they worked their butts off to get one for themselves. I use this example because I have a German friend who sees this all the time when he shops in Poland. It stinks!

i read the link, im not sure how they claim that its NOT goverment funded, someone must be getting something nothing is free. the link says that its a 20 year old program. there are also typo's in it, seems a little suspect. Anyway, like most other welfare programs, it in itself is a relatively small amount of money, and probaby originated as a good idea, which has then been abused. Giving a disabled 70 year old woman a cell phone and teaching her how to use it seems like a good idea, if she falls and breaks a hip it would be better to get her to the hospital sooner than later. Giving cell phones to 20 year old "disabled" drug addict single mothers, and a discount on their service that is equal to a pack of cigarrettes, well, whose fault is that? Labeling drug addicts "disabled", allowing them to automatically collect welfare, was that ever a good idea?

This program has been around for over ten years. FYI, it is not a federal or government funded program. It is funded by the phone companies who participate in it. Of course they use the money they get from their customers to operate it but it is still a misstatement on your part to say it is government funded....If you don't like it, find a phone company that doesn't participate in it...

it's for low income, working or not. there are working poor, not everyone is on welfare. i see my fair share of welfare cheats, and it's the fault of individual states. the problem is much larger than a freaking cell phone.

This is a gerat idea. Cell service costs nothing, but we pay a lot. Finally someone will make the phone companies realize that they are charging too much. I bet this makes our bills lower.
