How much does a freelance graphic designer pay in taxes a year?

a rough estimate of course I know it varies person by person. also what is an average of write offs?

like any independent contractor, you will file a Sch C which reports your income and expenses to arrive at a 'net' amount
that 'net' is transferred to your Sch SE(if it exceeds $400) and you calculate your se tax, approx. 15.3% of your 'net'
this will all translate to your 1040 where you include any and all other income to arrive at your gross
you are allowed to take half your SE tax as a credit on your gross to arrive at an adjusted gross income
there are no averages for write offs, you show the expenses you incurred
