Well it depends on your patience level. My ex-boyfriends mother is a nurse, and she went to a community college and got her degree. When she came out, she was making 54,000 a year. She has been in the profession for about 13 years now and makes around 72,000 as a head nurse in Oncology. With social services, you will not start off making much money coming out of school. Depending on what city you work in and what exactly it is that you do, you can make from 24,000-32,000 or so. But with social services, it is a broad field and you will have the ability to move in and out of different sectors of the profession. This will cut that the likely-hood that you will get burnt out. On the other hand RNs are in high demand, it is a secure job and can be very flexible in terms of moving elsewhere in the country. It really depends on what you are looking to get out of the next 30 years. Doing something you will enjoy is extremely important.
