What does this phrase mean?

"I'll tell you half the story the rest you fill it in"? I heard in a song somewhere? My guess is that It could mean that someone is telling you half the story and you would have to guess the rest or perhaps Decide it. What do you think?

I think it means that a person is telling you a story for a certain purpose. For example, for the purpose of explaining something to you, advising you, making you think, or guiding you. He will tell you half the story, and the rest you make up as you see fit. He has basically helped you in taking the first step by narrating a story, and taking it to the climax. Now you can see clearly how the story must end, what is the right way to end the story, according to you.
