Can a house be put in "sale under contract for longer than a year? I'm beginning to thing something is fishy..?

My husband and I dream of a country home in Ohio...each time we viewed a home, the realtor seem surprized that we would want to move the country...my husband is black, I am white. As soon as we view the house, the house goes under contract and we cannot bid on it. This has happened twice and I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't a racial component to all this...Are we being treated unfairly? I don't want to think this is racial, but the areas we want to move in are mainly Amish communities who see to act like they never saw black people before...what can I do?

Get a new realtor, yours sounds incompetent. It's not a racial thing, it's just that a house generally doesn't go under contract that quickly. You look at a house on the market, you make an offer and so on. However, don't expect a house to just sit around on the market waiting for you to decide whether or not to put an offer in.

Here is a way to find out if this is racial.

Have a white couple you know pose as home buyers and see if this happens to them. When a place you look with your husband suddenly goes under contract, give the address to your white couple friend and see if the place suddenly becomes available.

Get a better Realtor. If a Realtor tells you that the home is under contract and it is not, they can lost their license. This is wrong, unethical and illegal.
If it has happened twice in a very short period, this would be suspicious unless homes in that area are selling very quickly.
