My son loves many art and craft projects from this site:http://www.toddler-net.com/Games_art_cra…
They did some in his daycare, and we tried some too. Hand-printing and play dough projects are awesome for 3 yo!

Here is an activity that my students love...and even my friends!

    1) Get a hotplate.
    2) Turn it on LOW!!! (if it's too hot it will burn the child)
    3) Get aluminum paper and put it over the hot plate (make sure it's secure)
    4) Get crayons and take off the wrappers. (Make sure they are the old fashion waxy kind.)
    5) Have your son draw with the crayons on the aluminum paper. The crayons should begin to melt and pretty colors will soon take over the page.
    6) when he says that he is finished with his drawing grab a piece of white paper and gently place it over the aluminum. Then peel it up and Tada! A wonderful wax drawing that your son created all on his own!

The best "crafts" for preschoolers are open-ended activities that allow for plenty of experimentation and exploration.

Some of the things my students (and nieces, etc) have enjoyed are:

Shaving Cream Writing: Spray a bit of shaving cream on a table and let them go to town writing with "Magic Fingers". Shaving cream acts almost like soap, so you won't have to worry about mess. It dries almost clear on clothing. I use the cheapest stuff, Barbasol.

Finger Painting: Same idea as above, but do this on an easel, large paper, or even a drop cloth. We have a favorite photo of my niece fingerpainting on a dropcloth, wearing nothing but pullups, when she was three.

Glue and Paint: Let your child make designs on paper with glue. Then, when it dries, let them paint over it with watercolor paint. The glue will act as a resist and show through the watercolor.

Tear and Glue: Give your child construction paper and glue. Let them tear other paper (construction, newspaper, magazines, etc) into various sizes and glue them as they want to create a collage. Comment on and discuss the different sizes of paper they use, the colors and textures of the papers they choose.

Butterflies or Flowers from coffee filters: Using the cheap basket coffee filters, fold one in half, and have your child color it with markers or paint it with watercolors. Let it dry, and open to reveal a mirror image. Add pipe cleaners to turn it into a butterfly or flower.
