Kurt Cobain made the transition from 80s rock to modern alternative. His lyrics combined with his grunge style guitar make him my idol. Listen to Aneurysm by Nirvana, good example

Hard to say.... they are both pretty sucky at guitar. I like Nirvana better, so I'll say Kurt Cobain was better.... plus, he kinda revolutionized his style of music.

i hate blink so i wont comment, they are a 3chord band to me.
you want a proper punk band? the stooges, the ramones, or talking heads

as for nirvana Cobain focused more on lyrics then he did guitar.
cobain tied his guitar in with the music but in no way did he stand out, he had some decent solos.

here are some proper guitarists, they arnt too well known either but could stand up to hendrix & jimmy page quite easily.

...neither one were particularly good. Kurt Cobain had never played guitar before when he tried out for Nirvana, but he was the only person who tried out, so they accepted him. All of that aside, though, he's still the better guitarist.
