Would it be "messed up" to choose Kurt Cobain over Maya Angelou...?

Question

I'm writing an essay on an influential American...Kurt Cobain is influentional to ME but what did he really do besides struggle and then basically give up?

Whereas Maya Angelou overcame her struggles and flourished as an author.

BUT I can personally relate to Kurt. I feel like the decision is obvious, and I feel like I can't even explain how he's influential.

I mean, he inspired me in so many ways but I feel like no one will get it or be able to relate and that they'll (my classmates) will be like "Wtf how can someone who basically gave up on life be influential?"

Basically, I just need examples of how he was influential, thanks.

Purple prose, poetrys retarded dark secret kept under the stairs, is the best description of Kurt Cobains efforts. Or would you say it is " O whatever, nevermind?" My friend once told me his days were numbered as three chords could only carry you so far. And contradicts by saying there is only 7 chords that go all the way up. That it is based upon the individual and musical gifts of that soul. Why do you think Kurt was so addicted to the pleasure of drugs and Mya in seeing life's attributes (never read her work) But I am well endowed with a visions of a baby submerged in life chasing after a gun. The question asked by many if he really killed himself or if he even wanted to be there. One foot in front of the other he would prolly say as most would hear upon asking him ~well why be a rockstar then?~ having hear it said on his last recording " I thought we were suppose to be this rich rock band?" like he wondered how he got there from time to time as well between his concious lapses. When most people listen to music because of the way it makes them feel, or how it reminds them, being the greatest appeal of something not making sense, one line may not hold meaning to one while holding infinite wisdom for legions of others. New and different, old and tired. By listening to the lyrics of the late Cobain it can be heard of the real meaning. He slowly slurs it out as if to say...who wrote these lyrics? thats not what im saying, Oh whatever nevermind, that isnt me, never was. dont get confused. The history of rock and roll dates back to when these guys toured the countryside singing things that were happening in other towns and villages. If Curt had some answers besides heroin, maybe he woulda sang about them instead of all the reasons to use it or anything that felt like it. Mya prolly has a different veiw on the answer to human suffering. Classical music has its varibles, theres these sand hills who also vibrate a mysterious humming noise. The universal sound sounds like AUMMMM....and most toilets ring off in e-flat.
Kurt was influential but on a life lived rather than one aspired to, he saw a need and fed it. As most great art inspires thought rather than a specific veiw so should his music/life be veiwed rather than heard. With the statement, you can have this, but is it what you really want? As most would say the pursuit of money gives more happiness than actually having it. Chase that pistol when youve learnt to swim and dont sell your soul on just any whim. For the greatest thing you ever say is often found on your epitaph. Only some will see the wisdom while most will only laugh:)
