What do i need to record my own music?

Question

music is my one and only passion in this world. i have written a few songs and i want to record them but im not sure how to.
one of my favorite artists is NeverShoutNever(Christopher Drew)
he made it big in about 6 months just by recording his music and putting it on myspace.....so i was wondering how i can record my own music.
i play guitar.....both electric and acoustic. im not sure if I'll need an electicacoustic guitar to record acoustic only.......any help please?!!!

i have windows xp.
I dont have much money so at least tell me how i can get started :T

Define much money. About $80 gets you this:
