I heard a lot of my friends (mainly they were in high school, a lot of them could not make it to college) say that Asians are just a bunch of nerds who cannot play sports. I always disagreed with that, do you?

I always heard the stereotype that Asians cannot play sports.

This is a stupid stereotype.

Recently, I started lessons of Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, and the instructor is a Japanese. And this guy is a monster lol. Nobody messes with him. He is fighting like Steven Seagal, and probably even better than him.
So, no, all Asians are not nerds.

Idiots will be idiots and racists will be racists.
Obama becomes president and there are still a lot of Black lawyers, Black mayors and even Black governors but does the bigoted stereotype about Black people being uneducated, loud and "ghetto" get defeated?

A Latina becomes a supreme court justice and there are people who work in the White House (senators and congressmen) who are Hispanic, but do dumb rednecks still shut up about Hispanics being illiterate, not learning the English language and being illegal?

You have Yao Ming, Ichiro, Troy Polamalu, Dat Nguyen and Hideki Matsui playing pro sports, but do hicks stop going on about Asians being nerdy and unathletic?

You have Bill Clinton and tons of White people who don't care about skin color, Whites who would help a Black, Hispanic or Asian out if they could but there are still idiots out there who think White people are evil racists right?

Bottom line, it won't stop. There are tons of racist people out there and tons of idiots out there who will continue to stereotype groups as one. In the end all you can do is ignore them because usually those are the bigots sitting at home, jobless and single.

Well "Asian" is a broad term...that includes people from India,China,Russia etc etc etc etc....kinda like stereotypes about Caucasians as a whole or anyone else for that matter...so whatever anyone sez is just that, "what they say"- It doesn't mean anything...just a generalization...But I can tell you this- Japan is known for its love of baseball with many talented players...just like the Chinese love basketball....so just ignore the stereotypes and generalizations.

Never heard that. Asians have always excelled in baseball, gym, swimming and in general, most graceful sports and no one would argue with martial arts being a sport.

Asians playing American Football is a different story. There hasn't been a whole lot of successful Asians. Eugene Amano plays for the Tennessee Titans and he's Filipino, the only Asian I can think of...

Overall, your friends were either idiots or uninformed...which many times is the same thing

Well, over the past few years, i have heard this stereotype (then again, im 12, but still) but it has certainly decreased, i mean, yeah, there are just some people who think Asians are nerds. obviously not though, as there now are several Asians in the Major Leagues. But Matsui winning the MVP of the World Series will definitely shut a few people up.

really? u must've went to a very ignorant school cuz in my school, the asian stereotype here is that they are all good at tennis and volleyball and swimming (besides the usual stereotype that they succeed in math class)
