How do I remove gears from TREK bike.?

Question

My TREK bike is getting on a bit now & although I degrease the chain & bits every year in spring when I start cycling again the rear wheel is sticking so that I can feel it pulling.
Which tool do I need to remove gear cogs & degrease inside there & thereabouts.
Halfords BIKE HUT are rather limited in thier passing on of knowledge & servicing in my experience so I want to do it myself.

You need a special tool to remove the freewheel.

You will need a cassette cog remover that is specific to your cassette (probably a Shimano) -- or if your bike is older, perhaps a freewheel wrench -- a chain whip, and some grease.

It depends on what kind of coggs you have. if you have a freewheel you will need a frewheel tool, a big adjustable wrench, and something like a wench to mobilize the wheel.

If you have a suntour cassette you'll need a Suntour tool. Most likely you have a shimano cassette. You will need a cassette tool, a chainwhip, and an adjustable wrench.
